BCNeil
Hunter is a top 6 or bust. Its clear the Canucks management don't think he can do that for the Canucks. Our current top 6 is pretty non-physical, especially with Vrbata in that group. I don't think Granlund will be a top 6 either. In a way this trade makes it more likely the Canucks will have to look to the UFA market to fill a couple top 6 spots this summer. So lets hope that's exciting......more than if Hunter will finally make the team out of camp or not.

Your also imaging Shinkaruk had little value, so no one truly knows now do we? My point still stands that we should have kept Shinkaruk if his value around the league was for whatever insane reason as low as you think. jejejester
This trade shows what Benning believes he has in Rodin and Boeser as skilled goal scorers. Shinkurak didn't have a spot behind Daniel and Beartishi. Still not a fan of the trade. Never like Granlund, think he soft and not what we need to compete in the Pacific division. I'm assuming he's taking Vrbatas spot in an upcoming trade

Food for thought yup unless we are getting a lw in some other trade, this is a puzzling move with our current C depth

I can guarantee 99% of posters whining here have NEVER seen Granlund play and I'm willing to bet most have never seen Shinkaruk either, other than his highlight clips. Granlund is a very solid, versatile number and has put up solid numbers in the AHL, and they are really not far off from the numbers Hunter 'future 40 goal scorer' Shinkaruk is putting up. But this is only if we look at this trade in isolation. It's foolish to assume this is our only deal. There are other trades being worked out. Every time Benning makes a trade, we see people running around, screaming. After a couple months, they slowly realize there was a purpose for the trade and they realize how smart the trade was. What has Benning done for people to doubt him so quickly? Seriously, I only had to read the first page before I had to resist myself from grabbing a knife to slit myself. Some of the things people are saying are just absolutely brainless... Btw... If I see another comparison of Granlund to Vey, I will do some bad things... his numbers are, in fact, better than Shinks

If they weren't people wouldn't be making them Granlund better be making some strides. There's a lot of pressure on him now. Shinkurak has a fresh start. Personally. I think Shink's ceiling offensively is much higher than Granlund's. But it seems like Granlund made the Flames when he was younger, and has been somewhat producing in the NHL. I hope Vey is next to go - for a pick. I don't like him as a player.

LuckyLuciano
Interesting deal for sure..I've seen Granlund play quite often and Flames fans really liked this guy. Knack on him was size at the center position and being pretty bad at face offs. Really surprised Flames didn't try him at wing, kid has a lethal wrist shot! Kind of of surprised by the deal though..do we need another center? Was their no room for Shink?
48MPHSlapShot
For the record, people are allowed to be unhappy with this deal. Assuming Granlund hits his ceiling, he may be a solid middle center in the league one day. Assuming Shinkaruk reaches his ceiling, he could be a top six winger that could pop anywhere from 20-30 goals in a season when in his prime. Considering what our lineup is, I know which player I'd rather have. Also, and this is something that hasn't really been brought up, what about the marketability of each player? Virtually everyone has to agree that Shinkaruk is the "sexier" of the two players. Had he had a chance to reach his potential here, he could have been the type of player to put butts in seats and sell a ton of merch.
