It would give us defensive pairings of Elder-Tanev Hamhuis-Hamonic this would allow us to be competitive next year with the sedins not getting any younger and our window closing! The most telling part of your post, and what I had to see to understand why on earth anybody would make these proposals, is in your last three words. You write "our window closing." There are still a few, very few, who would agree with you that the Canucks' window is closing. Most everyone else figures that window has been solidly nailed shut and boarded over. I'm in the latter group. One thing those who want a rebuild will agree on with those that want a retool is that trading a talented young d-man who is looking like he could be a #1 on this team 4-8 years from now for a currently prime more established d-man is a timing mistake. Some will agree with you about signing Eriksson. Personally I don't like it at all, even though Eriksson would probably be a good player for the Canucks for at least part of that 4 year term you suggest. Didn't we just learn that mistake with Vrbata? ...and trade our best defensive prospect? Hey, I like Hamonic, but trading Hutton is a terrible idea, he is our current best defensive prospect. AriGold Posted March 2, 2016 Share Posted March 2, 2016 The worst part is that when the "Rebuild" starts in 3-4 years that we will need to trade Horvat potentially to start it. Horvat will be in his prime when the rebuild will fully start to happen. Don't shoot the messenger but this needs to start sooner then later and it starts with the Sedins being moved now or Horvat being moved in the future. Bure_Pavel Posted March 2, 2016 Author Share Posted March 2, 2016 Eriksson is only 30 and has shown to have good chemistry with sedins in the past, and I believe we have two more years while the sedins are elite players to compete. There are three free agent d-men that can actually put up points Demers, Yandle & Goligoski and are still relatively young. Eriksson would be nice but he denied a 5 year term at 5 million + in Boston so he's gonna cost us a lot more than that. Is this really where we want to be? and if it is for how long? If we truly want a run for a CUP we need to get worse before we get better. Bure_Pavel Posted March 3, 2016 Author Share Posted March 3, 2016 If we were able to sign demers we would be set and could keep both Hutton and elder, but I don't see management being capable of getting something done without destroying the bank. The owners and management will continue to try and make the playoffs, the aquilinis are too stubborn to have a rebuild and Benning will have some pressure to keep his job from the owners.
