Jagr - The Ageless Wonder - One of the Greatest of All-Time

A huge congratulations to Jaromir Jagr for tying Gordie Howe for 3rd in all-time NHL points.  I still remember when he was drafted... we really should have taken a chance.  Oh well, Jagr probably wouldn't have had as successful of a career in the Canucks organization lol.

In my mind, the Top 3 in all-time NHL points are:

1. Gretzky

2. Howe

3. Jagr

Gretzky is Gretzky.  Nobody is gonna get nearly 3000 career points unless the game changes dramatically.

Howe is #2 in my books because he actually had 500+ points with the WHA before the NHL.  So theoretically, he lost several seasons of 'NHL' points.

Same could be said with Jagr after spending a few years in the KHL, and some lockout shortened/lost seasons.

Bottomline, Messier sucks lol.  Ok, maybe he doesn't suck all-time, but he's not Top 3 in my books.

Anyways, congrats again to Jagr.  We need to cherish these final years with Jagr as we are literally watching a legend on ice at the moment.

This whole section was exactly what the Sportsnet crew reiterated yesterday...

And nobody considers Messier a top 3 player of all time.

Jagr is a legend, and arguably one of my favourite players all-time.  But he is not the 2nd best player to play the game.  Orr and Lemieux are undoubtedly ahead of him on that list, and I'd also be very hesitant to put him ahead of Howe.

For sure top 10 though.

Yeah he did tie Gordie Howe in points last night, but, remember Gordie played several seasons in the WHA to be with his two sons as well. Jagr might be still chasing #9 if it were not for that.

And Jagr spent years playing over seas, if he had never left the NHL he would have passed Gordie years ago.

1 Orr

2 Mario

3 Gordie

4 Gretzky

5 Jagr

It's from a few months back so not a big deal, but in case you're interested in the discussion:

And at his age it seems he might start getting one of these every year!

But man, he keeps on ticking, adjusting his game from a fast, scoring threat to a more complete player still capable of picking you apart.

He's definitely in the conversation with Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr and Howe. Lidstrom deserves some recognition too, as do others.

I counted 6 seasons for Howe in the WHA, and 4 seasons for Jagr in Europe. Apples and oranges argument, but I beg to differ. Gordie piled up the points at his advanced age too.

Apples and Apples argument, just more or less apples.

As a hockey fan I've been fortunate to have lived during this era. I've seen all these guys play live:

Orr- I was just a kid

Mario

Wayne

Teemu

Peter- Forsberg and Stasny

Stevie Y

Joe Sakic

Jagr

Alexander- Ovetchkin and Mogilny

Pavel- Datsyuik and Bure

Dale Hawerchuck

Bossy

Trottier

and on and on. So fortunate to have seen so many amazing Hall Of Fame players.

actually, not even that many less apples, because people forget that Jagr played a couple of half seasons in Europe during half-year lockouts. So it's more like 5 seasons he wasn't producing points in the NHL during his career.

Jagr would be second in my list of all time greats. When you consider that he lost three years of stats from his years in the KHL along with the lockout, Jagr would effectively be chasing Gretzky and probably be pretty close.

Jagr NHL GP 1613G 743 A1108 Pts 1851 and you add his KHL stats 155gp 66g 79A 145 pts. He'd be 1768gp 809g 1187 A 1996pts. Gordie Howe had 1767gp 801G 1049A 1850Pts. The difference is big.

Gretzky

Jagr

Howe
