poetica
Quote Zac Rinaldo, recently sent to the Providence Bruins of the AHL after being given a five-game suspension for his hit to the head of Tampa Bay’s Cedric Paquette, has apparently not learned his lesson. In Friday’s game between the AHL Bruins and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Rinaldo caught defenceman Kane Lafranchise up high with a hit, and was given a match penalty for intent to injure. Rinaldo was given the third NHL suspension of his career Tuesday, and was promptly put on waivers, which he cleared. The Bruins sent the troublesome forward to Providence. NHL suspensions do not prevent a player from dressing in the American League, though Rinaldo would have to sit out five games if he was recalled to the NHL. The 25-year-old has now been suspended from the AHL indefinitely after the hit on Lafranchise. He has one more year on his contract, carrying a $850,000 cap hit. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/zac-rinaldo-suspended-indefinitely-in-ahl-already-suspended-in-nhl/

Green Building
Wait a minute, since when can a suspended player be sent to the AHL to play?
MJDDawg
We could've had him off waivers. GMJB out-GM'd again....wait what?

So he was on waivers, but yet to clear, and gets suspended by the NHL, clears, then is still allowed to suit up for the farm team? Call me daft, but I still don't get how that can fly. I see another quote: " NHL suspensions do not prevent a player from dressing in the American League, though Rinaldo would have to sit out five games if he was recalled to the NHL" http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/zac-rinaldo-suspended-indefinitely-in-ahl-already-suspended-in-nhl/ I honestly just assumed the suspension would be recognized there as well. poetica
I was surprised they could play in the AHL while suspended from the NHL as well. Who knew?

Even this isn't proof that a rule needs to be implemented limiting this I don't what is. Time to just punt him from hockey forever.

Time to just punt him from hockey forever. I totally agree that there needs to be a rule change. Part of punishing a player is supposed to be punishing the team too. Sometimes that's unfair, sure, but usually the team knew the player was skirting the line and were fine with it. They should have to bear the responsibility as well as the player. Otherwise, a team could just use any 4th line plug they were planning on getting rid of anyway, have him go after an opponent's star player to help their playoff chances and then just send him down to the AHL. So what if they can't call him back up without him having to finally serve his suspension? They already got more benefit from him than they'd ever get from calling him up again. Ridiculous! King Heffy
Surprised the Bruins don't call him back up. Garbage like that seems like a perfect fit for their culture.
Tortorella's Rant
That's what happens when you employ thugs. Guy can't play. He wasn't even a good player at the junior level.
Honeydew
Thugs like Rinaldo should be banned from the league if that's all they do. We need more players that can actually play the game properly instead of throwing cheap hits like that.
RonMexico
In all seriousness, maybe he has mental health issues. We all know by now that guys who play on the edge are more susceptible to mental health problems.
