homersexual
Per Mike Halford on Twitter. Trading Roberto was not an easy decision. We are grateful for his tremendous contribution to our team and city, and we wish him much success. But the moves we've made go beyond goaltending. We are now younger and we are getting deeper. We've added a big, strong 6'4" centre in Shawn Matthias, who is excited to be here and will help this team now. And we believe in our talented group of prospects, including Bo Horvat, Nicklas Jensen, Frank Corrado, Dane Fox, Brendan Gaunce and Hunter Shinkaruk, who will be part of our short and long-term success. Benning sure has a different view on prospects than Gillis did.

Odd.
Matthias didn't want to be here and left. Jensen hasn't been consistent enough in the AHL which led him to be a failed prospect (at least for us). As of now, we've won that Jensen/Etem deal. Etem has been more impactful with us than what Jensen was in 3 years. Corrado was replaceable. He was waiver-eligible which meant we had to either ship him or keep him up with the team however Hutton outplayed Corrado significantly and so our only choice with Corrado was to send him down and pray nobody picks him up which in the end he was. Brendan Gaunce is now with the team and he's promising. And we traded Shinkaruk because Benning felt that Shinkaruk was replaceable. Shinkaruk wasn't ready for the NHL anyways we can come back to the trade in 2-3 years and re-evaluate who won the trade. Granlund has had better numbers than Shinky in the AHL and has played more than a season's worth of NHL games played (only 22). And Dane Fox, well, he was a long shot anyway. And, this was 2 years ago. We're a different team now and we have a different GM. Obviously Benning does not have the same preference as Gillis. Grapefruits
In a few years when the team is still circling around the bottom, a similar letter will be made with the "new up and coming" saviors to try and save season ticket holders.

We could have taken Kuznetsov, Coyle, or Nelson. We can thank Gillis for our lack of good young prospects right now. So many misses in his 6 years. Who knows Coyle or Nelson may have even developed better. That being said my main knock on Gillis was not sticking to his #1 and not trading Cory sooner. Especially during the 2010 TDL and then failing to move him again during the 2011 TDL. Wouldn't have mattered though... The scf was fixed.

Lost Grabner to waivers after he showed up to camp in poor shape, as he did every camp here. Bernier was a cap dump in that deal. And the first, Howden, is now 24 with 17 points in 87 games. He makes Vey look like a star.
