Bob Long
I was at the town hall tonight and several things stood out for me tonight about Benning’s plan for the team: 1. He believes in Scotty Bowman’s idea for team building that you must have 8-10 “home grown” players developed from drafting (learned though his relationship with Jack Bowman in Buffalo). Thats the model he's basing his plan on. 2. Benning does not sound at all like he’s going to go after an older veteran in free agency. The plan sounds like it is to target younger players that can contribute in the long term in free agency. He didn't say it outright, but my bet is going after RFAs, as he and Linden said a number of times they have cash to spend. 3. The team has targeted US college players and they are going to try to sign 2-3 in the next number of weeks. 4. Drafting a top D is priority for the draft. When you listen to Benning in person you do understand that he’s about the basics, building a team starting with the draft. We’re also a nice way into the 8-10 player base with Horvat, Sutter, McCann, Virtanen, Demoko, and Boeser, and maybe Granlund. So by the Bowman method we’re about 50-60% of the way. I’m happy with this plan, and it puts things like complaining about Corrado and Cracknell in the correct light imo.
westcoast
If the Canucks could actually figure out how to trade one of their assets before they are all gone they could be at ten in a year.

desiboynux4lifee*******
I wonder if Scotty Bowman would want Lucas Sbisa and Dorsett on his team. i wonder if scotty bowman would call Derek Dorsett a foundational piece, a guy who has coached the likes of Stevie Y hmmmmmmmm

Say what you want about Sbisa, he's our only physical D and he is improving.

combover
I wonder if bowman would let a growing list of assets walk for free as ufa's. or if he'd stand by while the owner tampers with hockey ops. Or if he'd trade skill for third liners easy for a salesman to sell to the gullible .

Mcdavid, Johny Hockey, PK Subban are Foundational pieces, when linden calls Dorsett one it scares me, and it scares me what type of players they believe are foundational players. No talent has been lost that would have been a core piece, other than possibly Shink, and we have to wait a couple of years to see the actual result of that. We do have a solid new core being built.
