Bo, baertschi, virtanen

First off, welcome to the forums. Next up, it's been discussed a bit in the GDT (Game Day Threads) when the change happened. Lastly, you'll want to flush out future threads a bit more so you don't run afoul of the 'lacking substance' part of posting - there's not much for word count in this one, even if it's a reasonable question.

But for the topic at hand, they had to mix up the lines a little with Hansen getting injured. They moved Etem with the Sedins which disrupted the Granlund/Vey/Etem combo so it was a good chance to see if Granlund and Baertschi had good chemistry from their days together in Calgary's system. It may not stick once we get back to healthy, but it might spread the lines better so maybe it does.

I prefer Granlund on that line because he distributes the puck well...also,he is on the defensive side of the puck...I have also started to notice that Bo is using the same  toe drag move to get through defenders..and losing the puck (its not a bad thing..but I think he's trying to do it by himself..).

Been watching Granlund closely the last couple of games and I've seen nothing that indicates that he could be a core piece moving forward. But I have no problem giving him the benefit of the doubt since he's playing with new teammates in a new city. Hopefully an offseason of Takahashi workout regimen will bring him back faster and stronger.

CDC was ready to tar and feather Baertschi for a slow start with his new team too. We just live in the day and age of instant gratification and patience has gone out the window for most. I have a feeling we will see a much different Granlund come next season.

well not all of us are that bad,I am one that waits and players need to play together for more then a few games, but when a couple play well together you leave them and Willie should know this but breaks up lines to much and that is the only thing I do not like about him coaching!

I remember in October, people were screaming "Waive Baertschi! He's useless! What a dud! We lost a 2nd! The world is ending!" Sometimes players just need some time to click. I mean, look at Virtanen too. Mediocre first half, very strong second half.

I've noticed that as well.  He was utilizing his linemates much better when he was playing with Baer.  The guy is a force when he is bearing down on the net, but I think he needs to be more creative.  He also needs to be aware of his linemates more.

It's a good time of the year when you're in the playoff position that the team is in right now (which is to say no chance in hell of making them) to try new lines out. Nothing to lose except a lower draft position.

That kid line though, if kept together will be a beast of a 1st/2nd line in the future.

I don't see this anyware. Why did they break this line up. Grandlun has been playing well with them but bo has seem to slip. And I think they would all be better back together. What r ur thoughts

I couldn't agree more.  And I really been wondering that myself the last few games.  Horvat and Baertschi were lights out together most of the second half of season, so splitting them up considering that is questionable in my opinion.  I like Willie I think he did the best he could this year with the tools he has had and all in all has got our young players playing very well or better than expected which says a lot about the kind of coach he is, especially with young players which is what you want.  None the less this is definitely one  thing that baffles me as well, I guess the only explaination is he is trying to balance the lines, trying different combos and seeing what else works.  Considering we are going to make the playoffs trying different things and losing isn't really a big deal at this point.  Really that is all I can think is happening.

Kid line is way too generic. It's the wild kingdom line.

It's pretty clear to me that it's Sven that drives the play on the bo, baer, virt line.  Bo is back to being the player he was during his dry spell.  Having Gaunce on his wing is good for him right now.

Its been a tough year for Bo, no doubt.

Since the main objective over the balance of the season is getting the highest draft pick then line make ups are mostly for evaluation and experimentation. Having a book on who plays the best with who creates possibilities for next year and even, might I suggest, help Bennings decision on who he drafts in June.

Horvat as well. He was painful to watch at the start of the year.

Having a playmaker like Baer is a good compliment to Bo's straight forward approach, but the kid's been thrown to the wolves due to Sutter's injuries. Seems to take the majority of D zone faceoff, tons of PK mins and the revolving door of Bo's linemates just keeps spinning. He's been given a pile of responsibility and is handling it really well for a 20yr old.

He was relatively sheltered last year and had a lot of stability with his wingers, Dors all year with Hansen / Kenins.

Tough year indeed, but he's taking it like a champ.

I agree completely and as much as I hate the talking heads on SN, they hit the nail on the head last night and Bo has taken it like a champ.
