Nurse Suspended for 3 Games

Recommended Posts

NEW YORK - Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse has been suspended for three games, without pay, for violating Rule 46.2 (Aggressor) during an altercation with San Jose Sharks defenseman Roman Polak during NHL Game No. 1000 in Edmonton on Tuesday, March 8, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 18:20 of the third period. Nurse was assessed a minor penalty for roughing and major penalty for fighting.

Pretty obvious one, and apparently related to a previous incident?

Yes, it was retribution for something Polak didn't even do... Hendricks tripped over his own feet and slammed into the end boards and Polak got the minor for being there. Nurse and the crowd who were baying for blood obviously didn't bother watching the replay as it totally vindicated Polak.

Nurse is a tough SOB.  Assaulting people isn't cool, but he is buying himself some space out there, that's for sure.

I hope to see Pedan or Tryamklin pound his a$$ one of these days.

He may be tough but jumping a guy like he did Polak was gutless.

Easy being tough when the opponent still has his gloves on and can't fight back.

That was a big time BlTCH move on his part. He lost respect around the league with that one rather than gaining any.

Lets not forget he got manhandled against Lucic earlier this season.

He thought Polak did something to one of his teammates.  It's not like he was out there just wanting to assault somebody

That's the thing though.. Polak actually didn't do anything to one of Nurse's teammates. Incidental skate contact if anything as Polak and Hendricks went to collect a puck behind the net which caused Hendricks to fall awkwardly and hard into the boards. And then after Polak came out of the penalty box he skated across the ice to change. It was there Nurse dumps the puck into the SJ zone and jumps Polak as he skates to the SJ bench to change. Pavelski even jumps off as his replacement. Polak didn't even get his gloves off and tried to grab/turtle to protect himself but Nurse just feeds him punches and refs allow it. The whole SJ bench was up and calling for the ref to do something as it happened right in front of them.

If you watch the replay you'll see. I laughed how EDM fans tried to make things up to defend Nurse's actions, but I guess that's cuz of bias and everything. Too bad for Nurse though he just prolly didn't see it right.

Lost respect?  Maybe   Gained space for himself and his teammates? Definitely

How many 21 year olds are willing to drop the gloves with Lucic?  It's not always about winning the fight

A rookie jumped a veteran without even letting him get his gloves off.

That is supposed to gain him respect?

It seemed lucic let up on him though when nurse was looking vulnerable, maybe nurse should have done the same.

I have no problem with the concept but if you want to challenge a guy, challenge him.  Jumping his when he is not expecting it is gutless.  It's not the kind of reputation you want in the NHL either because somebody at some time will do it to you too.

Yep.  Welcome to hockey.  It has only been a violent sport for about 100 years now

You are missing my point.  I am a fan of player enforcement but believe in the code.  Tough guys don't jump guys unsuspectingly...that's what cowards do.
