Twilight Sparkle
i seldom ever create topics of discussion but this one caught my eye. i'm reading an article on tsn, which quotes that, with the way the season's going, we're headed towards an all us-team playoff bracket-- which could potentially be the first time in almost 50 years where a canadian team hasn't made the playoffs i know some people's opinions are divided on such news to, "omg gary's ruining the nhl", to more rational to "who cares, half the league is comprised of canadian players." the so-called "real" hockey fans will watch regardless, but casual fans make the bulk of tv ratings, then we have the blue jays season looming. gary's calling out the canadian viewers to help carry the load, because he does have an understanding of canadian influence in viewership, and how important we are to the success of the league, but maybe i'm over thinking things, but it does feels weird since i've been accustomed to always seeing a canadian team in the dance. i have my eyes on the panthers (hopped on that bandwagon) blues and hawks, but other than that, i don't really have the interest. the habs and sens are not out of it yet, but with how that eastern wildcard is looking, outlook not so good before we get with the "watch another sport and all that stuff" do we watch this post season regardless, with vested interested as we would any other year, and support the devil that is gary bettman, because of all of the canadian players? or does the lack of canadian teams in the post season influence on whether or not you're going to tune in or really care-- or have we reached a point where no one longer cares about canadian teams, players, this and that and watch the spectacle that is the road to the stanley cup, knowing that it's the hardest trophy to win in all of sports TL;DR: i ask this because i'd like your guys' perspective about canada's influence on this league and where you're at going into this post season, with no canadian teams, having being one season removed of five teams in the post season
DJSkingz
I really hope that the ratings take a hit from all the Canadian "casuals" not tuning in to watch American teams fight for the cup. Maybe then Buttman will take notice and stop with the non-traditional market experiment.
Kragar
I don't watch many full games of the off-season when the Canucks aren't involved. Too busy, and not interested enough. I'm torn on who to cheer for often, as most teams with Cup already piss me off, and those that don't have one yet, well, I want the Canucks to get one first! Doesn't much matter to me whether a Cdn team is in there or not, but it is weird if it happens. Don't like Alberta teams, Leafs or Habs. Jets are ok, Sens I don't see enough to care. I can cheer for the Panthers, cuz of Luongo and Mitchell, and I tend to favor the East when the Canucks are out, since I watch the West teams play more often (and they piss me off when they beat my Canucks, dammit!) Green Building
I don't make a point of following any series all that closely if the Canucks aren't involved. The only games I find myself watching regularly are Sunday morning when the weather is sunny. I literally pull my TV into the yard, fire up the bbq, invite some pals over and day drink. Daytime double headers are the best, and it doesn't even matter who's playing.
MikeyBoy44
I always watch playoffs. The fight for the trophy brings out the best in all sports. I watch the super bowl, the world series, sometimes the nba playoffs etc.
-AJ-
I tend to lean towards Canuck games more than anything else. As soon as the Canucks aren't involved, the playoffs become fairly uninteresting to me.
Industrious1
I think i'm going to watch the Caps series, I feel like that is one of our cousin teams in terms of long-suffering fans. Maybe i'm just a glutton for punishment at this point.
Coconuts
I follow the playoffs pretty closely but I don't watch too many games that don't involve the Canucks. I mean, I can enjoy games that don't involve the Canucks if the hockey is good but there just isn't the same level of investment. There are other things I could be doing. van_ws
This season is probably the worst season in terms of interest and indifference, at least to me. I have watched barely any NHL games this year. The fact that no Canadian NHL team will be in the playoffs adds to this. It has been a tough season to watch when it comes to following the Canucks, not a lot to get excited about. There aren't really any teams in the playoffs that I like much, although wouldn't mind to see the Panthers or Caps go on a nice cup run.
Spotted Zebra
Of course, I'd rather watch the kings and Ducks destroy each other and the Flyers and then Penguins do what they do, rather than watch the Canucks play a mid season game against the Oilers. Good, fast and well played hockey is the most exciting sport to watch regardless of the teams involved.
Riviera82
I always watch the playoffs when I have a chance, even if the Canucks aren't involved. It's good hockey and I dont usually care who wins so no heart attacks.
