Looks like another terrorist attack:

Two blasts have struck the departures area of Zaventem airport in Brussels.

The Belgian government has confirmed casualties but has given no numbers. The cause of the explosions is unknown.

Another explosion has now been reported at a metro station close to the EU institutions. The whole metro system has been closed.

The blasts come four days after the capture in Brussels of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the jihadist attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015.

Belgium has now raised its terror threat to its highest level.

Word is that there have been attacks at metro stations as well and the city is basically shutting down.

As sad as it is to say, Europe isn't safe any more. Things will get worse before we see any improvements.

Agreed.

very sad.  I've twice been fortunate enough to be a tourist there for extended periods.  There is so much to gain from visiting Europe.

Thinking of the hours and days I spent on trains throughout the continent.  Could that still safely happen for our youth?

I visit Germany often, and in recent visits there's been a definite feeling of suspicion and fear about the place. People are scared. Unfortunately the far right see this as an opportunity to recruit, and in some cases it's working.

Well the fear is understandable.  People are going to do whatever it is they feel makes them safe.  It's a very difficult situation.  People are looking to their leaders, whom as humans, have their own fears and motivations.

I wish I could say I'm surprised that this attack has brought out the conspiracy theorists, but it's as predictable as the tides. I honestly smh at the paranoid element of society who actually believe that governments like that of Belgium would willingly murder their own citizens, just to create an environment where they can "take away freedoms".

BTW Loonie: The Sun and butterfly "theory" is hilarious.

Raff has it right most of all

this many posts, only 1 showing any kind of humanity.  Today over 30 people lost their lives, leaving hundreds of people without relatives or friends and a nation hurt.

And all some of you can do is adjust your tinfoil hat and start saying how we need to simply erase a religion.

WTF is wrong with some of you people.

Take a moment, breathe.  And show some damned compassion
