smokes
So in the history of the Vancouver Canucks. They have had a total of eleven GM's. As a fan, who do you think was the best GM, and which GM made the best trades? In my mind, I've always thought Pat quinn was the best GM by bringing like likes of Linden, McLean and Bure. Best trade has gotta go to Brian Burke for swinging the Sedin Twins. 1 Bud Poile February 25, 1970 April 1973 [3][4][5] 2 Hal Laycoe April 1973 January 31, 1974 [5][6] 3 Phil Maloney January 31, 1974 May 31, 1977 [6][7] 4 Jake Milford May 31, 1977 June 1982 Appeared in Stanley Cup Finals in 1982 [7][8] 5 Harry Neale June 1982 May 23, 1985 [8] 6 Jack Gordon June 4, 1985 June 1, 1987 [9][10] 7 Pat Quinn June 1, 1987 November 4, 1997 Appeared in Stanley Cup Finals in 1994 [10][11] 8 Brian Burke June 22, 1998 May 3, 2004 [12][13] 9 Dave Nonis May 6, 2004 April 14, 2008 [14][15] 10 Mike Gillis April 23, 2008 April 8, 2014 Appeared in Stanley Cup Finals in 2011 [16][17] 11 Jim Benning

Boudrias
To date it has been Quinn and I have seen them all. The '94 team was the best ever dressed for the Canucks. Not only was Quinn an inspiration to so many but he had to deal with a ownership that hand cuffed him to some extent. Quinn couldn't make deals? The Bure deal was absolute cloak and dagger stuff. The McLean trade was a steal. The St.Louis deal almost won Vancouver a CUP. As I said the strongest Canuck roster ever assembled.

He got info, checked it out himself made a move. That's scouting in my book. In regards to Benning's draft, sure tt looks good but they haven't done anything yet. This is why I think calling Beiing the best GM at scouting the Canucks have ever had would be a little premature. In a few years after the playes have shown thier potential then an arguement can be made but after a year, I just don't feel like he's earned the stripes yet. YEGCanuck
IMO Jake Milford was the first real GM of the Canucks and he had a real impact on the franchise.
LaBamba
A salary cap GM and a non salary cap GM are not comparable in too many ways.
Ghostsof1915
Seriously? Quinn traded Naslund for Stojanov. It wasn't the like the Sedin's were some unknowns drafted in the 4th or 5th round. We gave up a lot to get the Twins. Naslund trade was straight up robbery. Not to mention other trades he did. Burke is a pale imitation of Quinn, when it comes to trades. Tre Mac
Best Scout: Benning Best Trader: Burke Best Signer: Gillis Best Donut Eradicator: Nonis Overall: Quinn As brought up, it's unfair to compare Quinn in a non salary cap era to Benning and Gillis but there is a reason only one of these GM's has their name up in the RoH. HorvatToBaertschi
Burke definetely was the least trigger shy. Changed our franchise in 1 day for what is now 15+ years and still counting. Unfortunately I was not àround before the burke era so it is hard not to favor benning gillis or burke in this conversation. Gillis was à tremendous GM but I have high hopes for Benning. Hé has in 2 years almost completely restocked our prospect cupboard with only 1 top 10 pick. Plus im à big fan of the granlund trade (hâte to see shinkaruk go but it was the price to pay), love thé baertschi and Vey trades, and the kesler deal was grand larsony. Cant wait to see whats left in store for our franchise under this GM/Head Scout. I know most will say that hé has over payed players (sbisa miller dorsett sutter) but I think that during à retool its the time to overpay to keep leadership amongst our young players. I think hes doing à fantastic job and I think next year could be à réal turn àround for us, especially if we add one of the Top 3 players in this draft. Fingers crossed! Rick Blight
Pat Quinn was the best GM in franchise history. Jack Gordon was the worst in franchise history. His Cam Neely trade was unforgivable.
thrago
Hated him as a Gm but best trade I can recall was Mike Keenan trading Linden for Bertuzzi and McCabe which later became Henrick Sedin and Loungo. Edit to add we also got a 3rd round pick which latter became Jarkko Ruutu. One of the things that has drove me nuts about the Canucks is our hesitance to move players for assets and instead let them walk. I believe a large part of Chicago's success has been that they almost always get a return on there players, there asset management is incredible which allows them to keep there cupboards stocked and go on shopping sprees like they did at the deadline without killing the future. Something that most of our Gm's have not been able to do.
