Benning makes silly college signings like Joseph Labate, utterly pointless ones, this one would have made too much sense for the Canucks' to do, so he passed.

Benningoingtobenning lol

Joseph Labate was a Canucks draft pick. Signing him was a no brainier and he has been a decent bottom six guy down in Utica who is quietly rising the ranks. You'd probably be complaining if we didn't sign Labate since he was a Canucks draft pick if Benning didn't sign him.

That said, I am disappointed we didn't get Casey Nelson but there are still plenty of college ufas left to sign... So let's see what Benning does.

Desi will whine and complain about anything and everything. No point trying to talk sense in to him.

To have the expectation that the Canucks will sign every college free agent and getting angry when missing out on one really highlights the stupidity of some posters on these boards.

Consider that not every hockey player wants to play for the Canucks, consider the Canadian dollar, consider etc. etc. etc.

Benning not signing this guy doesn't mean anything, maybe the guy just wanted to sign with the Sabres... can't do anything about that.

Bang on. He is American born, vancouver is 3 times further away from his home town and in a foreign country.  Not to mention buffalo has eichel and looks like a good fit. You can only do so much. Sometimes it just comes down to preference.

Oh ya for sure... So with this said Troy Stecher should be a favourite to land a deal with the Canucks, and every draws the Tanev connection to us be in on signing him

Not at all. Despite being a Canuck fan growing up, he might want to try to live somewhere else other than where he was born. Playing and living in California would be tough to complain about to anyone for example.. I mean 3-5 days of rain a year and constant good weather? Maybe live in Manhattan and play for the Isles or Rangers? Maybe he really loved going to disneyland growing up who knows..

I mean most players don't play for their favorite team growing up and they seem to be fine with it. It might give you an edge that Stecher is from B.C and we've got Tanevs brother playing here... but really, there are 29 other options to consider, each to their own.

It's completely ignorant to think that Vancouver is every free agents number 1 choice.. even for B.C boys.

If it was just the BC connection for Stecher I wouldn't say we have the best odds.

But the fact that he's from BC and has great chemistry with Boeser I think that puts us over the top. Being able to develop along with another college teammate would be great for his development.

This team also has a pretty good track record for turning college defensemen into NHLers. Tanev, Hutton, and Connauton were all relatively unknown, and are now NHLers.

Did I say Vancouver was the #1 choice for all players? I was simply noting his favourite team being the Canucks growing up and recently sporting a vintage Bure jersey was just a nice to see from him, never said he was a favourite to sign here rather just a player Canucks may have interest in and adding him to Subban in Utica would be a good depth move.

We are not front runners, but we do have space available and some players may see potential in signing here and getting a chance to play sooner than other places.

But I guess I am in your ignorant category
