*Buzzsaw*
Quote me next season... feel free if Tryamkin falls on his face and get real bad.. Cause he won't. 21 minutes in his fourth game... no mistakes... no goals scored. The way he handled the two on one... the way he uses his stick. He is much more than a big body... but he is also a BIG body. This guy is minimum top 4 D... and in fact, I think he is top 2. Not an offensive D, he is the stay at home member of the pair, the crease clearing, punisher behind the net and on the boards... although he does have an excellent shot, accurate... he seems to hit the net every time he shoots. Maybe he's just on a high... maybe he's having a good two weeks spell... but I don't think so. This guy is a keeper. He's gonna be a Canuck for a long time. Only bad news is he's also a left hand shot, like Hutton, otherwise he'd be the perfect partner to our other young gun.
Mathew Barzal
I think he's going to do well too. The sad thing is I think he has a lot of raw offensive potential but he has no one to mentor him in that aspect. Both him and Hutton in fact will be stationed alongside offensive black holes in Tanev and Hamhuis. I hope we go after a big name UFA D this year. Just throw money at em. hatedkid666
Tavev and Tryamkin will keep pucks out of our net for 10+ years

Junkyard Dog
I would temper expectations, like Hank said. Not saying he is a top 6 defenseman max but he sure as doesn't need top 2 expectations from people. Unnecessary pressure if media latches on to the hype and well as them being unrealistic expectations.
aliboy
I think he also has very good offensive potential, just have to wait for it.

Jiggs50
Yup looks like a top 4 already. Dunno about top 2. Top 2 dmen have to produce points too. For now we should be content with his solid defensive play. After watching Bartkowski and Weber, Nikita looks like a god. Tanev, Hutton, and Tryamkin is a pretty good start though. Nd1989
He's good, but it's 4 games, he will struggle at times next year but it looks like he can be a top
mpt
I'm also excited to see Larsen play, he has the offence you need from the back end, hopefully the guy can play defence
Jack Fig
His adjustment is going better than probably anyone predicted, full credit to the young man.

Actually he's been better with a few of his of late - not this one obviously, since there's been plenty of good discussion in his prospects thread, but better. 70seven
Honestly, I don't see any top pairing D men on the team or in the system. Not the fault of the fan base, but we're not accustomed to seeing first pair D. Edler can be a solid #2 guy at times, but he's nowhere near consistent enough to be a full time top pair. Tanev is a solid shutdown D, but hes not rounded enough offensively to be considered a top pair guy either. We simply do not have a top pair D man. I suppose Hutton could potentially display the closest thing to a 1st pair as he is likely to be a 30+ point producer, can move the puck via skate or pass, and is decent at defending, but what kind of growth in his game is left is yet to be determined. At this point he looks like a good middle pairing with PP acumen. Again the glaring issue with this rebuild is that there arent any #1 pair guys on the way. Even via UFA for this year, Keith Yandle is the closest thing to a top pairing D, but he's a guy that plays rover moreso than defence, like Brent Burns, Mike Green, Byfuglien, and PK. Generally these types of defenders can make a difference but theres huge draw backs to how they play as well. The ideal top pair D is to have one guy who skates well and owns top end offensive instinct, but is also a high end cerebral defender... Keith, Doughty, Shattenkirk, OEL, Brodie, Faulk, Jones, Suter, Josi, Karlsson, Letang, Reilly... The ideal pairing for these players is someone that plays a more physical and defensive role, but also contributes to the offence (ie what Edler used to be and why he and Ehrhoff were a fantastic pair for a couple seasons) Seabrook, Carlsson, Weber, Hedman, Chara, Ristolainen, E. Johnson, Kronwall, Ekblad, Muzzin, Larsson, Hamonic, Ceci, Vlasic, Pietrangelo, Trouba... Then you generally have other high end Ds that are blends, but dont generally make the cut as top pairs on championship teams without one of the 2 first pairing type players. The "rovers" are eye appealing, but its far better to have one of the other types in your top pair. We simply dont have a top pairing D, and until we have at least one of the two types of thurobreads in the mix, we wont be competing with the teams that do. back to Tryamkin, I agree that he's seeming like a legit NHL player, and should be a valuable minute eater playing a strong crease clearer and solid defender. He and Tanev could be a tremendous shutdown pair, but that should be on the 2nd or 3rd pairing.

Nucker 67
I agree with you Buzz, don't listen to the sour-pusses. It's nice to have something positive to talk about, other than our upcoming draft pick. I haven't seen a weakness yet. Yes, it's only been 4 games, but imagine a really young guy who doesn't speak the language to just arrive with a team in another country (on a smaller ice surface) and be expected to contribute right away. And he has contributed. Such a big guy, he protects the goalie/crease, which is what I've been waiting for one of our D to do for a long time. Hello Edler? He goes to the corners and I don't really see any other players taking a run at him. He has a good accurate wrist shot and a nice slapper. What I've really noticed is he's so steady and calm. He doesn't rush around trying to do too much, he gets into the right position and does the smart thing once he has the puck. As for the speed, I think we'll see more of that once he becomes used to the smaller ice surface he's still getting used to the angles etc. This guy is definitely a keeper. Hopefully he scores his first goal this season.

48MPHSlapShot
Still looking for him to be a bit more proactive of a player, but his D game is sound, and that's where it starts.
