S N Y P E R S 7
"The NHL is not a place for development. The NHL is a rugged landscape built for war, and only those of elite standing stand a chance to compete, battle, and ultimately win. This is a peak performance league, not a place where you come to get experience or try and find your legs. You come in with your legs under you, and you fly with the rest of the pack. You come in offering your best, and if your best isn't good enough, you better have a better reason for being there than the free snacks." "Well, I know a guy who might say this is a Peeke performance league..." Andrew Peeke - Green Bay Gamblers - USHL - Defenceman 6'3" || 205lbs Definitely flying under the radar is the big Andrew Peeke. He's a talented defenceman who skates really well and isn't afraid to carry the puck himself up-ice. More of a defensive player though, he plays quite aggressively and focuses on limiting the opponents' time and space. His ability to stick with his player and stay with even the fastest guys bearing down is remarkable and he can really keep them to the outside. He's physical and big and moves great. Offensively, he's a presence, but not really consistent. He moves the puck up and out of the zone well, but doesn't really have the quickness to compliment his great vision, which may make some of his decisions look poorer than they actually are. He's just a bit slower to make the decisions. He makes high percentage plays, but just needs to be a little more aware of everything unfolding and just jump up and make the play rather than waiting back for those extra few seconds. I'd compare him to Travis Hamonic. Big, physical, and unrelenting defensively with a little bit of offensive punch to offer. He doesn't have all of the natural instincts of players who probably started playing earlier than he did and have played for longer, but those will come as he develops. He's at least 3-5 years away from the NHL, but the risk is lower than the reward in this case. If teams are willing to wait, the package that Peeke offers is too good to pass up in, say, the late second or early third round.
