WCHA ref dies after hitting head on the ice

Recommended Posts

Tragic.   My condolences to his family, friends, colleagues.  He had a family, three children.

"With assignments in the NHL, ECHL, AHL and CHL, he was the first Native American to officiate a top-level hockey game. His NHL sweater and skates are in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto."

Why the hell wasn't he wearing a helmet?  I know it's warm up and all .. that reminds me, lots of players don't wear helmets during warmups at NHL.

true, and with 18 guys shooting pucks around them at 80mph sometimes.  Never understood the no helmet during warmup thing.

Yah, I went to a couple of games and watched the warm ups ... man, pucks are flying and very easy to have a collision with another player.  Soon, NHL will have to clamp down on helmets during warm ups.  Only make sense.

I took a puck to the side of the head during warmups once. Luckily I was wearing the helmet, the shot broke it. The side of my head was bruised for weeks and people asked if I'd gotten my ear tattooed.

I've been on the ice when someone took a shot off the side of the head.  Wasn't hard enough to break the helmet, but he was lucky to be wearing it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Unfortunately another sad reminder to ALL in their every day tasks, or professions..

Where Saftey Equipment is warranted WEAR IT.  No matter how confident or skilled you are, the consequences could be crippling or dire.

You may die doing something you love,. But do you have to?

Dont think of your self in these situations,. Think of those who love and respect you.

Heart felt condolences to the Mousseau Family.
