Arrow 1983
This sucks. The only good thing about this is that the Canucks will most likely get a top 5 draft pick. The way we are losing clearly tells a bigger story. If we go down this road of all rookies and younger players (those 23 and under) we are in for some serious pain. We all can see it, getting shutout game after game and losing 2-1 or 3-2 is a very big difference. On the other hand, the light at the end of this tunnel is closer then it might seem. Even Benning has pointed this out. Are cap space for UFAs is bigger than it has ever been and there are players out there that Benning has good relationships with and a another player that has played with the Sedins before. So I decided to run some #s and this is what I came up with. There are some problematic contracts still on this team Burrows at 4.5 cap hit (but only going to make 3 mil next year) this little point might make his contract easier to trade to a team trying to get to the floor. Then there is Higgins 2.5mill however, it only has a year remaining on it which could mean 1 of 2 things. 1st he could be bought out worst case but not to bad of a scenario or 2nd it could make him easier to trade and retain some salary again maybe to a team trying to get to the floor. So next season could look something like this: D.Sedin H.Sedin and Loui Eriksson ( if we could get him for 2 years at 5mill per) would equal a 19 mill first line All 3 of these guys contract would end at the same time and possible deadline trades for all of them in their final years. As I see it, it is the only time the Sedins could be traded. 2nd line McCann Sutter and Lucic (4 years at 7 mill at most per) 12.392 mill 2nd line. A couple of thing about this line. 1st McCann has to play top 6 this is my believe his skill level is just that of a top 6. If he is not ready for this I believe like some of you that he should go down to the AHL. Which brings me to my 2nd point we could keep Burrows and let him play at this position til we can trade him maybe at the deadline and then bring McCann back. With Burrows 15.875mill 2nd line. 3rd Lucic only to a 4 year contract means both Sutter and Lucic contracts end at the same time. You guys may see something going on here I call it the succession plan. Ever Contract must be set up as to where the young players can then succeed the vets. 3rd line Baertschi Horvat Hansen 4.244mil 3rd line ???? Baertschi still to be signed. Hansen needs to help Horvat with his defensive game again just my believe. 4th line Dorsett Grandlund Virtanen 4.169 4th line ??? with Grandlund still to be signed. Virtanen unlike McCann can play up or down the line up makes him good to move him up when injuries happen. Offense 39.805 or with Burrows 43.288 with Baertschi and Grandlund still to sign. Defense Edler Tryamkin Tryamkin can play right side be a stay at home defence men and let Edler play a more offensive game. Sounds like a Edler and Tanev Pairing. Hutton Tanev Tanev plays stay at home defence and lets Hutton play a more offensive came. Youth and Vets helping each other makes sense to me. Edler and Tanev pairing no longer makes sense not with rookies on the team. Sbisa and ????? Beiga Goalie Miller if we don't move him Markstrom Defense and Goalie 23.121 mill. Still needing to sign a 5-6 Dman Total 62.926mil or with Burrows 66.409 mil All number are from nhlnumbers.com they include bonuses Tryamkin #s from General fanager The #s looking at it this way doesn't seem so bleak next season. It will be up to Benning and Linden to make it happen most likely their biggest test to come. I am not saying we are going to sign the players I mentioned, however, next season will be determined by what these two guys do on July 1st. ps. wouldn't Luke Schenn look good as a number 6 guy big body maybe get him for 1.8-2.25ish mill per 1-2 seasons. he is going to be 27 in his prime and pretty cheap. coastal.view
" Loui Eriksson ( if we could get him for 2 years at 5mill per) " where on earth did you dredge up the notion he'd sign for that amount completely crazy he is presently has an offer for a higher annual amount and much more term to remain in Boston he rejected that offer because he believes he is entitled to more NOT LESS so how would the canucks get him for what you are suggesting a complete pipe dream i stopped reading at that point

MJDDawg
Riiiiight. Because the top UFA's will want to sign with a team a few years away from being real good. And because a rebuilding team will want to lock themselves into huge money long term no trade contracts after spending the last few years trying to get out from under the ones they've had. Makes sense.

Like Random Vrbta or Thomas Vanek. The fan base will be burning them in effigy long before their deals expire.
FireGillis
Lol..loui will be looking for his last big contract. There's 0 chance he signs a vrbata style 2 year contract, when he can get 5+. There's no quick fix to the rebuild! We're going to be bad again next year and trying to rush it will just do more long term damage. Just accept the fact we're going to be bad for another 2-3 years at least.

khay
My idea: Eriksson at 5 mil, Lucic at 6 mil, Stamkos at 7 mil, Draft Matthews. Lucic-Stamkos-Matthews Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson Baertschi-Horvat-Hansen Virtanen-Sutter-Etem Win the cup.

Sorry dude...Eriksson at 5M, Lucic at 6M and Stamkos at 7M is not likely to happen for the Canucks or any other team. Just a hunch.
