[Speculation] Jankowski to free agency as well?

Recommended Posts

The problem for him is any team that signs him will have to give up a 2nd round pick for compensation.  Is he worth a second? Not to a team like the canucks who need to stock pile up so young picks. I hope benning stays away although, Weisbrod did quote him as going to be the best player in the draft 10+ years out. I'd be upset if it we did but It wouldn't shock me if we did go after him.  We need more young prospects (especially D) more than we need another center with a bottom 6 ceiling.

Man oh man. I would not be shocked if Demko does this as well.

Seems to be a thing now. Hope not though. Canucks have to do whatever they can to sign him asap once his school year is done.

Don't worry, he is good friends with McCann

Nope. No team gives up a second. The nhl will just award a pick to Calgary.  The 2nd round will become 31 picks.

This article was released 2 hours ago...

"It appears Mark Jankowski’s four-year wait to turn pro is almost over.

And that’s good news for Flames fans who will likely learn as early as Wednesday the former first-round draft pick from Providence College isn’t bolting for free agency and will sign in Calgary.

“We’ve made progress today,” Jankowski’s advisor/agent Wade Arnott said Tuesday night, following a long day of philosophical and accounting discussions with the Calgary Flames."

Yeah, Cox even reported Monday that a deal was close

He better pick well and not be dumb like Justin Schultz. Idiot chose to sign in the tundra over Sunny California.

Let's be fair though if Wayne Gretzky called you up to join whatever team he is convincing you to join, wouldn't you listen to him?

Anyone looking to defend Weisbrod need not look farther than this pick. He apparently has an obsession to find the "diamonds in the rough" and is so arrogant that he would put his neck on the line in order for a team to not only trade down and pass on impact players in the first round, but to pass on more impact players after trading down, and still reach for this player and then make some ridiculous proclamations about this player. Once he sees a player he likes he has serious tunnel vision and it's all or nothing for him. The fact that this imbecile is our GM's right hand man scared the hell out of me from the minute it was announced, and he has done nothing to sway my belief.

It never surprises me how far you fellas can reach to get at this management group and you are seriously just swinging your arms in the air without grasping at anything with this one. I don't know how you think the draft works but it's a collective effort where the GM (Jim Benning - you know, the guy that has done incredible things for this teams drafting abilities) has final say on all picks. Scouts have meetings throughout the year to discuss and rank their players. Benning and Kekelainen (CBJ) are arguably the two most draft oriented GM's in the league, you think Benning would let anyone call the shots when it is his time to shine?

The Jankowski pick was for sure a surprise, but to define Weisbrod by one decision that plenty of others were involved in making is ludicrous. How can you even say it was Weisbrod that "made the pick", the Flames made the pick. Jim Benning also likes a diamond in the rough and having the ability to find talent in the later rounds is the key to be a successful team nowadays.

Remind me what Weisbrods responsibilites are with the Canucks and specifically the draft? because if he has a big impact on the draft you should be kissing this guys feet. Tate Olson? 7th round pick looking like a 2nd round pick?
