Is it just me or is this team kinda floating in the breeze right now? Am I seeing something different? Henrik seems to have lost the ears of the team.

There is a real lack of motivation right now. Despondent would be an apt adjective to address the situation...

I think that a divide rests amongst the players. And that a further expunging of personnel is required. Possibly franchise altering.

Well they failed at the deadline, have a few contracts that "suck", and had injuries to key players throughout the season.

The offseason will be welcomed for this team. They can get healthy, snag a top prospect, make some changes (hopefully to the D), and next year we should start with a competitive team which has given a lot of NHL ice time to young players who will be key moving forward.

I predict Benning will call next year's team a 100 point team again.

We're in it for the long haul that's for sure. Say what you want about the Twin's but they hate losing. What I think what has ticked them off even more is that everybody has seemed to embrace it, hell, even relish in it. I'm also certain they have their own opinions regarding the kids being given big roles in their first years.

I don't mind though.

It lets me focus on other teams. Watching a lot more of the Leafs (tank competition) and Panthers (Luuu) now.

Their hockey is just so much more enjoyable to watch AND I can be indifferent as to game outcomes.

You choose now to make this thread?

i wouldn't be surprised one bit if we were to learn that most of the players are already thinking more about next season and what they're gonna get up to over summer break than they are about next game.

I don't think I really understood any of the poll options. But my view of the team is similar to what it was earlier in the year. The team does not have enough talent. The Canucks have vets on the downhill side of their careers and Benning has brought in a lot of young guys who other teams were will willing to let go -- that means other teams were disappointed in them. Let's hope some of those guys develop into good NHL players.

But right now the Canucks are putting a very weak team on the ice. I will concede that Benning has a good eye for young talent. But his performance in other areas has not been impressive, and that does not help.

So much youth might be too overwhelming for the leadership group.

All this losing would be frustrating as well and the amount of youth contributes to the losing.

The Sedins want to make the playoffs each year and have this team succeed considering they don't have much many solid years left.

At the moment I believe the Sedins don't want this team creating losing habits moving forward.

The team lacks leadership. There is nobody who has enough chutzpah to grab the team by the scruff of the neck and drag it forward. The Sedins are great, well-respected men, but that's not the same as being effective leaders. Their comments have no teeth to them, and even the kids in the room know it. And their play on the ice recently doesn't help in the illusion that they're great leaders either. I don't mean to lay this all off on the twins, but I expect the young players to have growing pains. The team is so lacking in far too many areas, and now it shows in the standings. You can't hide problems forever.

It's no big mystery:  losing all those vets to injury exposed all the young players who we'd hoped to shelter.  Edler and Sutter needed to be in the lineup for us to have a chance.  We aren't as bad a team as our record.  Things will be better next year but still not great.  There is a lack of size, talent and leadership, and our D is a mess even with Tryamkin and Hutton forming what looks to be a solid second pair for next season.  I'm hoping that Markstrom, Hutton and Horvat will provide more leadership in the younger group.  Markstrom's bluntness and anger are important ingredients that seem to be missing in that locker room.

Phil are you sure all this so called divide and despondency is the result of just the room only?

I think what Phil means is that the seams in his gaunch are splitting. A CDC fundraiser for Phil's undergarments may be necessary.

Well we're already on the path towards change, but I'd say it needs to be accelerated.  Continue to acquire youth, continue to dump veterans and build around the solid young players we already have.  It's time to throw all notions of immediate success out the window.  I'm not saying lose intentionally for high draft picks (tanking) or that the players and coaching staff shouldn't try, but that the future of this team needs to be the highest priority rather than making the playoffs.

By now it's clear that the reset on the fly thing hasn't worked, the veterans will only continue to decline, so it's time to rip off the bandaid.

Everytime I head to the Selinsgrove and visit Mabel and Mary Lou, those seams split. You're right, Fig.

I've got plenty of backup though. No fundraiser required, unless of course CDC wants to help me buy a house in my old stomping grounds of South Vancouver.

Blunt, whatever you require, I'll do the Kickstarter. You know me, always willing to help.
