GDT: Around the NHL Weekend of April (02-03) 2016

So who do we want winning tonight in the Calgary vs Edmonton game? Three point game would be great, but Calgary would be better winning rather than Edmonton. They'd be at 72 points, while we're at 71. Then we'd be at top 5 pick.

Anyone watching the kings stars game?

Anyone watching g the game think shinkaruk would survive lol?

The more I think about it thw more i think he needs to be in the east to reach his potential.  Even Dallas has emerged as a big mean team.

Nail on head Goose.  The AHL and Euro leagues are full of small - average skill level - not mean players.  I don't know if Granlund is any good either (I would have preferred getting a second round pick for Shinkaruk) but at least he can play defensively.  If Shinkaruk doesn't put up 60+ points, he's hurting his team.

I think at the very least we could have built up Shinkaruk into an asset with more value.

But you're right I think he would have a tough time in our division. Smaller players have to either have elite speed, elite stickhandling, or be extremely fearless to have success as a top 6 forward. I don't think Shinkaruk quite checks the boxes on any of those qualities.

I agree with the first part. We obtained an equal asset (redundant). We definitely could have held on another year to see if his value increases and maybe in the end had a possibility of landing that d prospect we've been searching for.

Or we get a second round pick back instead of a player, giving us a chance at a young top D?

But it has to be done. I actually hope the Calgary/Edmonton game goes to overtime with the Flames winning so they jump over us.

Just watching Detroit score their third, and noticing just how biased the colour guys are on CBC.  Nylander had the goal scorer, but drifted away on the back check, and that guy scored.  It was some of the poorest back checking EVER, and showed Nylander's very low hockey IQ for defencive play, and why he will never be a centre on a Cup level team.  Yet the CBC guys don't even mention Nylander's name.  For all you Nylander lovers out there, have a look at Detroit's third goal, and then try and tell us all how that kid has a high hockey IQ.  He's either stupid, or lazy.  And the CBC guys should call him out for his bad play.  We all know if that was a Canuck's prospect, they would be all over our guy.

ALF IS PISSED!  Leafs suck, CBC SUCKS.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. He does have a good IQ for the offensive side of the game but has a long way to go on the defensive side.

Your anger towards CBC is somewhat mis-directed though as these guys all work for Rogers. CBC just allows Rogers to broadcast the Saturday night games on their channel.

Oh.  Alf apologizes to CBC.  Alf's hate is for Rogers!  I really don't like that Glenn Healy.  Who's he working for, the Leafs?

Wow Alf, just when I thought you were committed solely to sitcom spam no one gives a sh!t about and speaking in the first person, you make a comment about hockey, a hockey play, a hockey context - an observation.  I'm surprised.

I haven't seen the play yet but it sounds entirely like his first game in the NHL - completely vacant when the opposition is in possession - embarrassing the level to which he's oblivious of where his check is - and he got burned and exposed.  But that time Hughson couldn't help but comment.

That's the thing about the NHL - it's a grown up's league lol - for two way players.   People can make excuses for that weak sh!t all they want, and give the kid a free pass because he has talent, but that's the path to another generation of Phil Kessel era failure.  Luckily they have a coach that won't stand for that junior floating regardless of how hockey dumb that market is.
