What was Jim Benning's best and worst move?

The title is self-explanatory.

The best: moving Eddie Lack

- To me, moving Lack was essential for a couple reasons. Despite his fan love and improved play, Eddie Lack was without a doubt over-valued by Canucks fans. This was evident with his poor play in Carolina (90.3% SP), and his inability to stop the "goal that matters" (evidenced in his Calgary game 1 mishap and his 5-1 loss to the Blue Jackets for a playoff spot in Carolina). Furthermore, we would have lost Markstrom for nothing, and it also caused people to dismiss Miller's play, despite his resurgent play this year (he wasn't bad last year either).

The worst: trading away Ryan Kesler

- This one will be controversial. But I think keeping Kesler one more year in the middle of our resurgent year could have changed things. This is evident by how big of a difference he made on the Anaheim team last year. I also think the return we got from him was wasted, as Bonino didn't stay with the team, and also showed the 2C role was a bit too much for him at this stage. With Kesler, we probably didn't need Sutter (who is a good piece), and I definitely think we could have made noise in the playoffs last year. The main issue I have is the return - I didn't think our old core was done yet.

2nd place good move: trading Brandon Sutter for Nick Bonino

2nd place worst move: trading Linden Vey for a 2nd round pick (just a bit overvalued)

Still waiting for best trade: giving up assets (picks) for 22-27 year old players, who's roles could have been filled by UFAs (or players we already had) was a WASTE of valuable picks.

Worst: not moving coming UFAs for picks at two TDLS in a row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alf is pissed at this GM for his mismanagement of assets.  He does appear to draft well though.  Too bad he didn't have MORE picks?

Have to agree with you here. He was preaching that you have to build through the draft (can't remember exactly when but I know he has said this) and then goes and trades away the picks like candy. I don't get it.

I remember his saying that too, and Trevor.  Then JB added we need to get more D prospects, and he trades away second and third round picks.  A lot of really good D come out of those rounds.  Ray, on 1040, said that the word around the league was not good about the Canuck's management.

Jesus, and I thought I'd seen the worst thread already today.

Trading Lack was the best? And not keeping Kesler, who was forcing a trade, was the worst?

I distinctly remember you wanting to keep Lack. Good thing you're not in charge. I live literally 3 minutes from where the Hurricanes play. Lack was atrocious this year.

I think getting Sutter will be one of JB's best moves.  I think he is right up there with Kesler in terms of playing tough mins, and it would really help Bo's offensive game as well.

Although I understand the context of why JB did it, Vey has probably been the most underwhelming, but he looks like he is improving so reason for optimism?

Actually, he did. It was right after this last TDL on TSN 1040.  Plus, Alf does not like to be called 'people'.  That term is very insulting to one so furry and cute as I. :canucks:
