NHL fight numbers continue to decline

"Fights have plummeted nearly 50 per cent from only five years ago, according to HockeyFights.com, a stunning reversal for a league that has long contemplated fighting's place in the game.

The NHL is on pace for about 300 fewer fights from the 2010-11 season, a 47 per cent drop, and nearly 400 fewer scraps from the more 730 of two years before that".

If the refs did their job and protected the players by calling penalties fairly and if the league handed out suspensions fairly, there would be no need to keep the fighting in the game. Until then, they shouldn't completely remove fighting from the game as it will keep some of the league's cowards and cheap shot artists honest.

eh, the sport's always changing. i see it as numbers starting to even out with the days of bob probert and stu grimson being a thing of the past. i'm all for fighting if it's two guys having an issue and in the heat of the moment things escalate. i have no problems with refs jumping in and break up the staged fighting. stuff like that, i'd like to see some bench minors

Big babies can't handle getting a concussion in situations they choose to be in, that pays them millions of dollars.

Im going to hurt myself at work and try to sue for more.

It's a good thing Prust and Dorsett don't have to worry about concussions from fighting since they would rather hug their opponent.
