Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has recalled forward Mike Zalewski from the AHL Utica Comets.

Zalewski, 23, recorded 30 points (14-16-30) in 55 games with the Utica Comets this season, ranking tied for seventh on the team in scoring. He also appeared in two games for the Canucks this year, collecting one assist.

The New Hartford, New York native made his NHL debut on April 12, 2014 at Edmonton and registered his first NHL point (assist) the following night versus Calgary.

Prior to making his professional debut in 2014, the 6’2”, 205-pound forward spent two seasons with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers. In 71 career NCAA games, the New Hartford, New York, native compiled 47 points (21-26-47) and 75 penalty minutes.

Utica has an easy schedule though, facing St.John x2 and Binghampton (bottom of the North Division) and only need 3 points to clinch.

Who does Zalewski replace? Who else is injured?

McCann is still injured, and Kenins replaced him last game. I'm not sure what they would do with Zalewski, maybe he goes in for Kenins? Or replaces Pedan up front?

Kind of strange only for one game.

Biega moved up to play forward.  I'm thinking somebody just got injured or is being rested for the last game.

why would you even waste the airfare cost to bring up this plug for one game....

bizarre.... who cares if someone is hurt, just mail it in like the last 2 games...

I'm sure the guys getting called up appreciate the pay check and the audition

I see it as the Canucks showing appreciation to there players doing well in the minors

If I was the owner of a team in 27th place and a half empty building not sure I'd be to excited to pay him NHL salary for even one game...  but that's just me

Thanks..was that WDs way of rewarding Pedan..put him back on his regular position after playing a decent game at forward..he wasnt out of place there I thought...had some shots and hits.

I think it's all about picking up an NHL paycheque for the last game as a reward.
