What would make a satisfied offseason?

The season of horror is over.

Now what kind of offseason would attract your attention? Give one of optomism? Viewed as a success?

In no particular order:

- Canucks sign demko (*although my guess is he stays at BC), boeser, caggiula and stecher

- WD fired and replaced by either Green or Julien

- assistant coaching staff canned

- Miller traded

- Vey traded

- Canucks sign lucic (* if anything he'd make the team more interesting to watch)

- Canucks draft in the top 3

it depends what direction this management wants to go

here is what should happen.

Hansen moved for decent prospect return

Edler moved

Miller moved

awwwwwww screw it nothing is going to happen, this team will just go out and sign a bunch of UFAS and over pay them. Just look at that sbisa contract.

this team needs to get younger and gather prospects, the next two years are important in what direction they go. If they believe the Sedins' can win them a cup then be it, but that's very risky relying on the Sedins' for a cup. It's best to build a new core around Horvat.

You need some sunshine in your life. These past couple of days have been good. Maybe try to get out and enjoy.

Back to the thread:

Dream scenario

I see 2 major free agent signings, Stamkos and a LD would be my preferred 2. Go after Okposo of cap is available

Trade that sends Edler++ to New York for Hamonic.

Canucks draft Laine/Matthews.

Buyout Burrows

sign Boeser, Demko, and the other two ND free agents.

Trade Miller

Sedin-Sedin-Hansen

Matthews-Stamkos-Virtanen

Baertchi-Horvat-Etem

Gaunce-Granlund-Dorsett

Zalewski

Hutton-Tanev

LD-Hamonic

Sbisa-Tryamkin

Biega-Pedan

Markstrom

UFA

Based on reading CDC...nothing short of drafting all the prospects and signing all the free agents will satisfy the fans.

Julien? Like, Claude "the hypocrite" Julien? He will never be welcome here. Hiring Green might be a good idea but I don't think firing WD is well justified.

And, why would we want to trade Miller? We need to buy Demko at least one year of development time as we did with Schneider. Contrary to what you believe, I think Demko will sign with us.; it's in his best interest. If he doesn't, then I think he doesn't have good decision making abilities... basically only if he is an idiot, will he not sign with us. And, we don't want idiots on this team.

This off season will be satisfying if we sign at least one top UFA forward (Stamkos, Eriksson, Ladd, or Lucic), draft in top 3, and sign/trade for a shutdown defenceman.

Satisfied? A top 4 pick, Hamhuis re-signing, letting Weber and Bartkowski walk, re-signing Baertschi, and a good usage of any leftover cap spaces (details TBD). I'm not terribly picky, really. I realize that there's a significant difference between a satisfying off-season and an ideal off-season.

Only if they're signed at an insultingly low price. CDC doesn't want anyone paid what they're worth

What I think Benning's off-season should look like:

April:

Sign some college free agents! I'm hoping we land Stecher/Caggiula. I'm sure there are other less notable guys that will be available as well. I think Demko should sign soon, the path ahead is clear for him, as there will be no one in his way once Miller plays out his contract.

Join the pro scouts for the AHL playoffs, and observe the NHL playoffs. Let's see if Utica can win some playoff games!

May:

Lock up the RFAs we do have: Etem, Granlund, Vey?, Baertschi, Kenins, Pedan and Zalewski.

Scout the World Championship.

June:

Scouting meetings early in the month. Combine a little later before draft. Solidify who we want.

Draft!!!!

July:

Free agents! We have to land an offensive winger, and I secretly want Matt Martin for our 4th line. An upgrade to defence would be much appreciated.
