Mr.53
With us finishing bottom 4, it seems like we have an increasingly higher and higher chance of picking up a forward with our first pick. Anyone in the top 5 honestly would be a stud of a pick, and would have a solid chance at making the team at camp. We are most likely getting one of Laine, Puljujarvi, Tkatchuk, or Dubois, and possibly even a Matthews. We are going to have a large number of young forwards, and honestly only so many spots. I would be willing to trade a piece, like McCann, that we already have and turn him into a stud defensman. To Vancouver: Shea Theodore To Anaheim: Jared McCann I love Jared McCann, however, you have to give to get. If we could bring Shea Theodore back to BC, we could possibly have found our future number 1 defensman. I think Anaheim would be a great fit for him. They have Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler to anchor their top 6 for the near future, allowing McCann to play third line minutes and develop on a competative team. They also have Rickard Rakell, which could possibly make McCann less attractive, but I think they would love to have both and secure their future. They also have Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm on the team, with Jacob Larsson in the pipeline, making Theodore a little more expendable. I think a trade 1 for 1 is plenty fair. If possible, I would rather move Granlund, but I think McCann for Theodore is more fair. Horvat and Granlund take the reigns for center, Boeser and Virtanen at right, and Baertschi and Tkatchuk? at left. That's a solid middle six coming in for the future. If we draft a forward with our top pick, we have to get a stud defensman through trade. Our defense next season without any major trades or signings would likely consist of Edler - Tanev Hutton - Larsen Theodore - Tryamkin (Sbisa) (I just assume that Benning will sign Larsen since we traded for him) Our young core of defensmen going into the new age would consist of 3 solid prospects in Theodore (Future number 1 all star), Hutton (Solid 2 all around way defensman), and Tryamkin (A huge physical defensive defensman) playing now. Along with Subban, a right handed PMD on the way. That's a solid young core for the future if you ask me. Diverse skillset and variety. And they are all guys that are ready now, if not by next year to keep up with our forward group. Add Demko in that list for the future, and we have our new core set. Only a matter of getting them minutes What do you think? Future Tkatchuk - Horvat - Boeser Baertschi - Granlund - Virtanen Gaunce - (Cassels? Zhukenov?) - Etem (Honestly, maybe Kenins on left) Theodore - Tryamkin Hutton - Subban Demko That's a solid future core right there andthey are actually closer to being NHLers than not. Why would you trade a future number one center, who has a mean streak, for a soft D man? We already have Tanev to fill that top four soft role. Rocky Balboa
Can we give our prospects another season or so before we toss them out the window? What happens if we draft Matthews and he scores "only" 20 goals next season? "TRADE MATTHEWS NOW WHILE HE HAS VALUE!!"
Apple Juice
Granlund will never be a top 6 C ever. I'd take Cassels as the 2nd line C over Granlund any day of the week if McCann isn't there
Blue Jay 22
LOL at you guys saying no. Anaheim wouldn't even consider trading Theodore for 1 second.

Don't care what Anaheim is thinking, that's a horrible deal for Vancouver. Also a great way to piss off a certain goalie prospect currently in the NCAA. There is no way in hell Cassels will ever be a top 6 forward and he isn't even close to Granlund's offensive skills.

He is considered a Top 15 prospect by generally every single scouting department and site. McCann has the potential to be a great player but Theodore has the potential to be a star. I'll take a potential #1 Dmen prospect over a potential Top 6 forward any day of the week. If I'm JB and Bob Murray offered me this deal, I'd thank McCann for his services, take the deal and run away laughing before BM changed his mind. Toews
Firstly the Ducks don't consider this trade. If they plan on trading anyone it will be Vatanen as he is due for a raise. When they do move a defenseman it will be for a more proven player than McCann. The Canucks do this trade in a heartbeat. Theodore is the more valuable asset and the Canucks desperately need more top D prospects.

Granlund still being only 23 and had a rookie season of 18 points in under 50 games, I wouldn't write off is upside yet. You'd take Cassels first at this stage? Cassels is struggling to even score 15 points in the AHL.

elvis15
I don't even know why Anaheim would want McCann. They've got Kesler on a multi-year deal, Pirri and Rackell as RFAs to sign, Nattinen nearly ready in their system and Kerdiles as a LW/C for depth too. They'd rather have Theodore. D-Money
Anaheim is a budget team, and Vatanen and Lindholm are both RFAs who will require BIG raises. So they won't be trading Theodore, or Montour - they will be trading one of the expensive RFAs for a forward, and making room for the young guys to come in. There's lots of talk that an Anaheim-Edmonton deal will get done by the draft. Vatanen + Silverberg for RNH???

It's rose colored glasses foo and I ain't wearing any. McCann will be staying in Vancouver all summer to bulk up and prove to this fanbase that not only does he belong in the NHL he can excel in it. Quit calling Alf an alien for a sec, McCann does have Elite potential according to Bob McKenzie and multiple scouts, his stats don't label him fully. He models his game after Toews, get some more info before arguing.
