Next year's assistant captains

With H and D winding down their careers, is it time to give an A to Bo and maybe switch him up with Hutton or whomever one of the younger leaders will be? We all agree, save for Desi probably, that Bo is likely the next captain. Is it time to transfer some of that 'responsibility'?

I guess if a Stamkos is brought in or Matthews is drafted that could change things but I would like to see Bo get A sooner than later.

Stamkos, yes, Matthews, no.

I think if Hamhuis leaves, Horvat and Hutton split the A.

Letters are just formalities. The veteran leaders (Henrik, Daniel, Hamhuis, Burrows) will continue to wear them and the young players can be leaders without being forced into the extra recognition (and things like interview time as well as other responsibilities) that comes with a letter. It's not like Horvat and Hutton won't know how to lead if they don't get an 'A' and get to practice right now.

Hansen has really emerged as one of this team's leaders. If he's still here I could see him wearing an "A" (in addition to the usual suspects).

During his question period, Hansen full out admitted that he doesn't consider himself a leader on the team. I would not give that person a letter.

He said he doesn't think of himself as a mentor. I was like ouch, I would've expected and wanted a little more from him.

If Hammer and or Burr are gone I think Horvat gets the A. There are certainly me veteran guys (Edler, Tanev), but older =/= leadership material. I also feel like it'll give the youngsters some buy in having a young guy to also look up to. It can prove that their efforts can and will be rewarded.

He said he didn't consider himself a mentor. A bit of a difference there, I think. He's obviously a leader through his actions on the ice as he lays hit heart out every game.

Danny, Burr, Hammer, Hansen

Sutter needs more time on the team but I see him wearing one eventually for sure. Bo is to young, doesn't need that responsibility yet. Mama let him play, he's to young for the A. Tanev and Edler don't need one, both are far to passive and I doubt either of them or chomping at the bit to wear it.

No free agent should come into the team and get one, not even Stamkos. *Exception to the rule* Shane Doan. I know he would never come here, nor do we need him, but if that glorious stud muffin waltzed into our club he can be captain for all I care.

Nothing wrong with modesty.  Better than declaring yourself a leader if you aren't.

As much as I would like to agree, I think a leader would respond that they go out of their way to help the young guns. As all the other known leaders tend to say. He wasn't being modest in my opinion he was being honest.

Interesting news about the Sedin training camp brought out by Ed Willes in Province:

During a quiet moment Monday, Daniel Sedin mentioned he and his brother have postponed their return to Sweden this summer in order to hang around Vancouver for a couple of weeks. The scheduling change means the twins will have some extra time to work out with their younger teammates and if you followed the Canucks' season, you're aware a couple of group training sessions aren't going to transform this team into a Stanley Cup contender.

"I told Trevor (team president Linden) this," said Daniel. "These guys have so many things going for them. They can skate. They can shoot. They can hit. They're ahead of where we were. They just need to learn what it takes to be a professional.

"They're going to be the guys here. They're great kids. I mean, it's almost selfish on our part, but the sooner they learn how to be professional the better we'll all be."

"You come into training camp, you barely meet them, then the season starts," Daniel said. "Now we have a chance to work with them for a couple of months and talk to them more." And the message will be clear and direct.

"Maybe you don't want to be too hard on them, but the harder you are now, the better it will be. We understand they're 19 but, in the end, they're playing for the Vancouver Canucks and we have expectations." As it happens, there are exactly two teens on the Canucks' roster — Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann, who both signed up for Camp Sedin.

This is awesome, I had some skepticism about the Sedins but this move is probably the smartest thing that they could have done. I think it's going to do wonders for McTanen.

This is some of the best leadership I've seen from the Sedins.
