This was kind of expected. The kid came out last week saying he grew up a die hard Canucks fan. He really made Bennings job easy here :p. Nonetheless good job getting him in the system!

Schultz was a Canucks fan too, doesn't mean Gillis could close the deal.

Benning deserves credit. There were quite a few teams pushing hard for him.

Everyone on here thinks I'm full of poo when I mention this story, but Schultz's uncle has a place on the Shuswap directly beside mine and he knew full well he was going to sign with the oilers from day 1. That Lebron like sweepstakes he pulled was all a show.

I hate him and his pathetic nephew and his lame pontoon boat with like 5hp.

Credit to Benning and the scouts if Stecher pans out as a player. They identified the kid years ago, invited him to camp in 2014, and kept in touch over the last two years. And when signing time came, the Canucks were Stecher's first choice.

yes, they were ahead of the curve - saw how good he was going to be.

simply being from BC doesn't necessarily determine anything - the player/family/agent also need to feel this is a premier opportunity for them.

Can't wait to see him run over Shayne Gostisbehere lol.

Interesting how much of a difference signing college free agents can make.

Signing Stecher and Caggiula + our picks this year shores up our prospect pool in a hurry. Defense could still use an elite talent and then I would be overly excited for the future.

EDIT: Even without Caggiula (I get the impression he will go Bhawks), I like the way our prospect pool is shaping up.
