Trade Edler and Hansen (Discussion/Proposal)

Recommended Posts

Ok, if we have not learned from before, then I can't help you! But!

Edler and Hansen are the last 2 players from the Stanley cup run that are of any value, and are replaceable.........So, at the draft!

Move Edler and replace with Yandle in July................over pay to not have the NTC.........so Edler = $5 million per.........Yandle 3 years at 6.5 - 7 million

Move Hansen and replace with Boedker in July............again, over pay not to have a NTC.....Hansen 2.5.........Boedker 5 years at 5.5 - 6.5 million

Now I know this seems like a lot, but we sell assets and acquire equal assets, and gain additional assets in the trade.................

Again, several ways to gain assets.......take picks or take prospects, and do not worry about your extra cap hit, as neither one should be here for the total length of their contract..........just movable assets........

But, do not for any reason, take your eye off the puck! No upgrades, no trying to get into the first round (unless it is done naturally through maturity of existing players!

And relax! We will not win the Stanley cup with the Sedin's

As much as trading both Edler and Hansen makes very good sense for a full and proper rebuild, JB will not go full rebuild.  We can, as smart fans, wish for such trades to happen, because we know it's best for our team's future.  Do you really see Mr. Retool JB properly rebuilding?

only way we trade Yandle/Boeds at those prices to get anything worth mentioning is if we retain a bunch of cap...

And I'd rather have Hansen

Hansen is a third liner playing on the 1rst line. We have plenty of bottom 6 waiver eligible players and a mountain of cap space. Do the twins a favour and upgrade that top 6. I'm not big on Boedker I think Okposo would be a better target. However I am on board with shopping both these players to add picks and prospects and replace them with spending some of that huge cap space we'll have.

It's nice to have a great 3rd line player who's a beast on the PK that can slot into the top 6 when injuries come into play...

as for upgrading our top6... the draft will take care of that

Hansens value is probably as high as it will ever get. We have so many waiver eligible contracts that we'll start losing players to the waiver wire. Some decisions need to be made and me personally I'd rather move Hansen then lose these guys for nothing. Top 6 we can spend to get a guy more effective and bottom 6 we got Hansen, Sutter, Etem, Rodin, Granlund, Gaunce, Grenier Virtanen, McCann, Dorsett, Burrows, Zalewski, and Kenins.

Sedin Sedin Top 3 Pick (hopefully)

Baertschi Horvat FA

and the bottom 6 consists of any combination of the other 13 names.

Case in point some guys got to go. Even when you buy out Burrows, waive Zalewski and Kenins and send McCann and Virtanen down to Utica we have too many bodies in the bottom 6.

Well now that all depends where a player is getting traded. Every player has their destinations and personal thoughts. They are human and also keep track of what teams are doing what and where their buddies are.

That's a given, but retool JB will not trade these players.  Yes, he should trade them, but he won't.

If we draft Laine or Puljujarvi they'd slide easily onto the right side with the twins. Let's hope we get lucky with the ping pong balls. Then we don't have to spend $5 million on Okposo, if he would ever come, and we could move Hansen to his proper 3rd line duties with Sutter...

Then in one or two years McCann, Boeser and Jamie Benn can join the fun and replace the Sedins and Hansen...

Good ideas, perhaps, I like the part where teams that so desperately needs a defenseman or a forward have to give up really valuable assets to trade for Hansen or Edler and not sign Yandle or Boedker for no assets.

Yandle and Boedker are ver soft players.  Teams will prefer Edler and Hansen 10x out of 10.

Every veteran traded from this point means more time at the bottom as well as further distance from the top for a longer time.

Its all about spreading out your cap. Some teams can justify giving up picks to have players on good contracts than overpay the cap they don't have. Okposo likely gets 6.5 while Hansen can fill in a top 6 role for 2.5. Again Edler should be about 1.5 mill cheaper then Yandle. The Canucks are in a position to overspend in free agency because of the really big youth movement. Playoff teams don't have that wiggle room.
