Why did we let them go

As many watch the playoffs we see many who are former Canucks.

Such as  Luongo/Bonino/Kesler/Bieksa/Santorelli/Mitchell and others who are no longer around but

maybe should have stuck around such as Sestito/Bitz/Booth/Malholtra/Kassian/Lack

Should we have let these players go, or have kept them and give them a few more years to retire with the Sedins

and watch the others grow with some of the younger players ?

Thoughts on who should have stayed and predictions on what our standings would have been if we kept such players...

We should have kept

Luo if the media didn't jump all over him

Kes if he didn't ask for a trade

KB if his best friend didn't ask for a trade

Mitchell if he didn't get a concussion

Manny if he didn't lose an eye

Kassian if he didn't drink

Lack if we could have got a bigger return on Markstrom at the time...

the rest I could live without

If we'd kept Raymond, Rome and Ballard we would have won at least 8 Cups by now.

Good one, thanks.

Answer: this is a pointless question. The question is who do you want to see win a cup more, Lou or Juice?

Yeah... It was so hard to see guys like Sestito and Bitz leave the team, such integral parts of the team <_< Gimme a break buddy. Players come and go, that's hockey. Why would any of them care about retiring with the Sedins? The Sedins will be retired before most of these guys? Watch the young players grow? You mean the strangers they've never met that are a decade younger than them... Yeah I'm sure they are soooo attached.

What kind of point are you trying to make with this thread?

Players performance is affected as career injuries pile up,they can't play as well and start to get injured more often.Todays NHL has a habit of paying vets above what they are providing because the contracts increase over time.Players around 24-28 many times have peaked in performance. As a fan that number seems to be getting lower but maybe that's just my observation. And yes you have exceptions that play to 70

Luo - can't handle the pressure of a Canadian franchise. Also lost his Job to Schnieder. Also didn't want to be here. I think the only thing that attracted him to Vancouver initially was the accessibility to black market whale blubber for his horrendous mop.

Kesler - didn't want to be part of a rebuild. Graciously and diplomatically requested a trade by not making a Luongo type media circus. Used his NTC as he was untitled to. Because he isn't as likeable as Luongo he is booed every time he shows up even though he handled his situation like a professional.

Mitchell - Bad timing with his head injury. He should have been and should still be our captain.

Manny - Tragic

Kassian - Is almost as overrated as Luongo. If he had a stronger Twitter presence I'm sure people would be protesting his lack of consideration for the ring of honour.

Lack - was an average goalie with a below average maturity for his age that everyone found amusing except for me.

All of the players above mentioned save for Luongo and Kesler are complementary players which, if all on the same team, get a top three draft.

I would rather have a top three draft team on the rise than a top three draft team on the decline.

Luongo wanted out.

We upgraded Bonino

Kesler demanded out.

Bieksa unfortunately is washed up.

Santorelli was good, but we didn't need him.

Mitchell was severly concussed when he left, and there was a chance he'd never play again.

Sestito and Bitz were pretty bad and couldn't crack our roster.

Booth was an epic fail.

Sadly Manny's eye injury killed his career.

Kassian couldn't get his crap together here.

Lack was let go because Markstrom's ceiling is higher.

I saw this exact same post on facebook, and it wasn't any better there... Even with these guys, we still would have missed the playoffs.
