Do the Sedins' have what it takes to win a cup at this age?

Recommended Posts

The word realistic is what I want fans to think of when I ask this question.

Furthermore, start watching some playoff series to see how much of a war it is on the body. The Sedins' this year showed that physicality harms there cycle game. Teams like LA, BLUES, Sharks, Ducks used this tactic to perfection on them.

I been watching playoff games when I get time and I been comparing it to what we have and I must say we need to start being honest( eg the management!) because we are looking at years away from being a playoff team.

Sorry guys, but realistically I don't think the Sedins will be able to handle the wear tear in the playoffs. First off the schedule making is screwed up. For example some teams play back to back. Florida and Islanders did that did you see how slow Jagr is out there?

It honestly doesn't make sense to build a team through free agency to give the Sedins a shot at the cup because I honestly don't think they can handle the wear and tear due to there age. The proof is in the playoffs, just watch the veteran players, they are being out -skated. It's not just datysuk, zetterberg its all the veterans. They are struggling to keep up with the pace of the game. We don't truly have any guys that can take over the Sedins'. It only makes sense to make the playoffs with the Sedins' if the Sedins are secondary guys eg 3rd or 2nd liners. At this  moment I honestly believe management is kidding themselves.

What should happen? Well management should move key guys and get young prospects, which sadly won't

what do you guys think? Please be honest in your assessment and ask yourself can the Sedins' handle the playoffs at there age?

Probably not as the first line.  They could certainly be very good 2nd liners on a Cup winning team.

I guess it's possible they could be first liners on a Cup team, if that team had a good 2nd and 3rd line.  We haven't seen what that looks like in quite some time, so I can't guarantee it wouldn't be the case.

If they were affordable, I think a team like Chicago or Tampa would gladly take them as the 2nd line, as opposed to their typical Brad Richards type one-year acquisition.

Canuck are going nowhere the next 2-3 years.  This will be dark years for our club watching kids develop but it was exciting to see growth in their game....

Hopefully in 4-5 years we will have a core group of 25 yr olds that can take their game to a Playoff Level.

Sedins will be long gone by then though..... Right now Sedins main task is to teach the young core how to train and behave like professionals.  Hank and Dank have been pure class in their professional habits.... Great to see them teaching our next core how to be  pro's.

I don't think anyone on here is under the impressions that we'll win a cup with the Sedins as our 1st line. 2nd or 3rd line though? Definitely possible.

the time line does look like atleast 3 years, Benning is dreaming if he thinks this team can be a contender next year.

soo are you saying Tanev and Hansen will be moved? Because that's what I meant, CAnucks are moving grinders to the AHL and losing players like Hammer for no value.

Why would we move Hansen or Tanev? Hansen is a great mentor (and cheap!!!) and Tanev is only 25. We need them for the transition.

Just check out the Oilers for what happens when a team dumps all their vets at once.
