TMZ is reporting that the musician known to the world as Prince has died, according to multiple sources. According to TMZ's report, Prince's body was discovered this morning in his Paisley Park home. He was 57 years old.

One of the most influential musicians in pop, Prince produced 39 studio albums over the span of his decades-long career, selling more than 100 million copies and influencing countless genres. Prince, the legendary musician who brought us countless hits, such as “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry,” has died, TMZ reports. He was 57.

The award-winning artist died on Thursday at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota. The cause of death has yet to be released.

The Huffington Post has reached out to his reps.

Earlier this week, the performer was treated for the flu after his plane made an emergency landing.

A representative for Prince told TMZ that the singer was feeling under the weather during his shows last week and began feeling worse on the plane. After the emergency landing, he was treated at a hospital and released three hours later.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Rest in peace one of the greatest icons of the music industry and one of my favourite artists. The 2007 Super Bowl performance is unforgettable.

UPDATE on potential contributory factor in death: Overdose on Percocet

Quote

Prince

had OD'd on Percocet days before his death, and he ingested so much, EMTs had to administer a "save shot" at the airport where his plane made an emergency landing to save his life.

Sources in Moline, Illinois tell TMZ, Prince's entourage told responders he had taken the painkiller after his Atlanta concert which triggered the emergency.

Percocet is a painkiller which contains a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone, an opioid. It is highly addictive.

We're told Prince was taking painkillers for a hip problem. We're told he had corrective surgery for his hips around 2010.

Dear celebrities

Stop dying already

Seriously, though, RIP Prince. Was never a big fan but he was talented.

Would love to trade him, Bowie, 2/3 of the Bee Gees and Marley back for some other current music "artists".

He could have easily have been another Hendrix. But fame and the "muse" got into his head. When he was focused he was one of the most talented guitarists around. Go to youtube and google "While my guitar gently weeps" With Prince, Lynne, and others.

You may not like his "image". But he had far more musical talent than most hip-hop/rap guys.
