Rick Nash(Proposal) For Discussion's Sake...

Recommended Posts

No question this guy's overpaid. So it's mostly a value question, combined with the issue of Van's intended direction.

His AAV is 7.8 mill(brutal), & pts were in the mid-30's..bargain, huh? In fairness, last yr(2014-15) he sniped 42. Reading over on HFBoards, seems lots of Rag fans are eager to dump the higher-paid stiffs, in order to get younger. I've seen little of his play this yr, so would appreciate opinion, whether he's got anything left(or is this a 'Heatley-type', quick-fade?)

So also wondering, can we get younger too, while also overpaying a vet top line for two more seasons? Try to keep amassing picks/prospects on the side. Is this a guy the twins would mesh well with? He's still only 31 yrs old.

After 2 more seasons, we'd suddenly have 22 mill in cap available(twins & Nash, off the books). So you run with it(good or bad), then you've got a tonne of space, as our kids turn two seasons older.

Last point is we would dump overpriced vets too, albeit some contracts ending sooner. This would be the Rags' incentive.

EG: Higgins, Sbisa, Vey & prospect(perhaps Kenins?)

Rags send: Nash & conditional pick(2017 3rd R). Cancel pick if Nash snipes 25 next yr, for example.

After this, re-sign Hammy at a cheaper rate(perhaps 3 mill?)

We could probably still afford another decent FA-signing.

If they could retain 800k making him have a 7m cap id be alright with it. When nash is on his game he's dynamic. He's big strong and would probably net 60-70 points with the twins. Still his contract is horrible and he may be in decline. So i dont think he has much trade value. At most Raymond Ballard and a 1st::D

Frankly my dear...

Don't give a damn..it's Us who'd be doin them the favour.

They've gotta burn it down(what we too realized, last 6 mos), just as we did. If they wanna shop around, good Luck dealing a 7.8 mill, 15 goal sniper.

Look what Pitt's speedy youth did to the likes of their pricey vets.

You cared enough to make a post in a public forum.

and no, that package would be doing no team in the league a favour.

You have to offer something of value to get something of value. and Rick Nash - 36 point season or not, is worth ALOT more than a guy who has barely been able to play in the NHL this year, a prospect nobody expects much from, and a toss in prospect.

but hey, why bother with any logic when making propsals right? just just throw our spare parts away and expect a kings ransom back like its NHL16.

Higgins Sbisa Vey is just this years Ballard Raymond 1st; only worth even less.

LOL.

Also

You say Pitts youth destroyed their "pricey vets" and you want Vancouver to do exactly that(load up with pricey vets)?

Smart.

If Nash was a free agent I'd be okay with going after him, but he just doesn't seem like somebody to trade for at this time. Trades should involve core pieces (or planned pieces) that aren't available in free agency, and frankly there are options that are similar to Nash in upcoming free agency. If we don't get those players, so be it, but Nash is not worth valuable assets at this time.
