Canadian officials have confirmed that John Ridsdel, 68, was executed by his Philippine captors, the terror group Abu Sayyaf.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau got the news Monday morning during a cabinet retreat at Kananaskis.

“I am outraged by the news that a Canadian citizen, John Ridsdel, held hostage in the Philippines since Sept. 21, 2015, has been killed at the hands of his captors,” Trudeau told media in a hotel ballroom hastily equipped with Canadian flags and a black backdrop for the occasion.

“Canada condemns without reservation the brutality of the hostage takers,” he said.

With three hostages still in captivity, Trudeau said the government will “not comment or release any information to compromise ongoing efforts.” Trudeau and his cabinet are currently on a three-day retreat in Kananaskis.

We badly need the US to get involved, maybe if Hillary wins they can bomb the phillipines in retaliation. That way we can ensure our democracy is safe.

Or maybe those F-35's we were going to buy could have been used here in a humanitarian effort of missiles and cluster bombs. Harper never once let those terrorists win, up to you Justin

In B4 people blame Trudeau for not bombing the Philippines to get them back.  And just before people blame him for not paying a ransom...

Typically, a good leader would go to any lengths to save even one life of their people. Trudeau is a socialist so human lives don't matter too much to him unless there's a financial advantage to come to it.

I am originally form the Philippines and although his family won't know, I send my condolences to them.

I am sorry for what had happened, I just want you to know that the majority of the Philippines is an ally in combating these Radical Islamic Terrorists. Our armed forces have been fighting them as far as I can remember. The Muslims occupy a very small area in Southern Philippines but they are a big headache to us. Just last year, they massacred 44 soldiers hunting the mastermind of a terrorist bombing in Indonesia. They mutilated their bodies after the fact. My own grandfather, who was a general in the Philippine Armed Forces were massacred by Muslim rebels back in the '70's when they were supposed to surrender peacefully.

I hope the rest of the hostages can be brought home safely and may the terrorists who did this to a fellow Canadian be brought to justice.

Bit too obvious for my taste but I do admire the effort.

People were asking for it by suggesting that conservative posters would want to bomb the Philippines. That would be like bombing France or Belgium for their own Islamic terrorism.

Maybe because they are fighting ISIS in Yemen?

Ummm no.

The Saudis are fighting the Houthi rebels who are Shiites funded by Iran. ISIS are Sunnis. This Philippino group is Sunni and likely supported by the Saudis.

Should still be prime minister.

He had his turn.

Makes no difference, the hostage will still get killed.  he wouldn't have paid the ransom.  that will make every Canadian tourist a terrorist/pirate target.

That definitely much more accurately describes capitalists than socialists, but OK

I don't agree with some of the reasons for voting him out, but that's democracy for you.

I don't think Harper was as bad as some people think, but he was worse than what other people remember him to be.

He wasn't perfect, but until a better candidate came along, he should have stayed in. Trudeau doesn't know what he's doing.

People think the same about Bush.

However (and we don't know if this was intentional or not), he started the domino effect which would take down many of Saudi Arabia's allies, which has helped Obama go after them now.

Who knows how Trudeau will be looked at in 10 or 20 years. And also, just remember, Harper - at this point in his time as PM - had already broken some promises as well.
