Second round starting before the first is over m

Recommended Posts

With the Islanders and Lightning kicking off their series, it marks the start if the second round. However, the Ducks and Predators still have game 7 of their first round series to play this evening. I realize that it's different conferences so starting the next round doesn't have any bearing on this one, but has this kind of thing ever happened before?

It happens in the NBA and both league's like to copy each other.

well that may be true and it appears to have happened in the NHL before but not a fan, I suppose if it didn't happen this way though we'd all be complaining of a day off or two between first and second round games, so yeah likely just the usual " can't please everyone ", " people will always have something to complain about ".

I don't like it. Teams should be rewarded with rest for closing up a series quickly

I haven't look at the schedule, but maybe they'll get extra days in between games, specifically the travel ones (after games 2, 4, 5, and 6). That is quite a bonus and I'm sure both teams would rather have a more spread out series than an extra day of rest beforehand.

I was curious, so I went through every playoff year on Wikipedia.

Ah.

You always seem to know those random tidbits, so I was wondering if you just knew a ton of obscure things or looked them up

Ratings are bad so they just want to get it over with?

That was only in Canada, largely due to no Canadian teams in the playoffs.

Apparently, In the US the ratings are record level high. I heard on 1040 part of the reason not to delay between rounds is to keep the viewers interested.

chicago STL game 6....

........ hockey market was evident in U.S. overnight television ratings – a 5.6 metered-market rating on NBC for Monday night’s sixth game of the Stanley Cup final, the third-best ever for a Game 6 since 1995, and NBC’s fourth-highest overnight ever for the NHL, according to the Neilsen Company.

As a casual player I like it

They are being rewarded and also keeping their momentum going

Its not like the are playing "more" games than the teams that are still in the 1st round (It's still less)

Plus, the team that eventually gets to the most important final series faster, will get rewarded to rest up longer than the ones who took longer to get there

nba does it all the time. and its prob because there were games cancelled that extended the season for the ducks.
