ShakyWalton
This is a scary move by their government...they say that Belgium has 7 nuclear reactors in varying states of decay and if thats not scary enough a senior researcher was spied upon by an ISIS terror cell who have designs on making a dirty bomb...this is pretty unsettling when the government decides to give 11 million people iodine pills and word is The Netherlands is following suit...do they know something we dont...both scenarios would be devasting being as most European borders are in close proximity.... http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/belgium-issues-iodine-pills-all-citizens-nuclear-emergency-plan-n564606
SabreFan1
The sad thing is that Iodine "protection" is limited to only a very few types of radiation. If one of their plants goes into meltdown, the only thing fool-proof thing that they can do is pop a pill, gather together their possessions, and drive far away from it. I'm glad that I get my electricity from the Niagara River (ie: the river that feeds Niagara Falls).

There is most definitely more to it. People think that these power plants can be turned of like a light bulb. They can't, you have to slowly bring them offline. Russia is at the forefront of nuclear power plant technology. These countries should save up their pennies, nickles, and dimes and temporarily hire some Russian nuclear physicists to help design and replace these power plants. Doesn't matter. World-wide, most gov'ts keep stadiums in tip-top shape, to ensure we're all distracted by sports. Everything else just goes Hellinna'Handbasket. When a country has a GDP of over $18 Trillion per year that shouldn't happen. We go into massive debt to keep our de facto empire going, but in the meantime our bridges are falling apart. This is radiation and radiation travels extremely fast and sickens people within minutes. Also as I stated earlier, these pills really really suck as a plan. Iodine can only retard the effects of very few types of radiation. When these plants go into meltdown, the only useful and proven emergency plan is to get as far away as quickly as you can when it happens. Here's Pripyat. Do you think the people that once lived there took pills and stayed when Chernobyl went up? No, they got smart and got the he*l out of there as fast as humanly possible when the Soviet government enacted their actual intelligent emergency plan which was to tell their people to choose a direction and get away as far and as fast as possible. THAT'S the only viable emergency plan. I'm baffled at people like you who say silly things out of sheer ignorance and then insult the rest of the board. Kind of like the emergency plan at Fukishima reactor in Japan...that is pumping/leaking tons of radio active water into the ocean daily and people dying from it. When I was a school kid we would practice earthquake drills, and nuclear attack procedures too. They were both the same! Hide under yor desk! . At least, when that young, you are flexible enough to kiss your @$$ good bye.

Yup. These idiots who think there is survival after a Nuclear war, are the same morons that believe they can stand in a pool full of diesel fuel, light and smoke a cigar, and float on their air mattress, while enjoying CNN cover the war with embedded reporters.
