MeanSeanBean
With the laffs getting what the earned by going full tank, does this change anything with Stamkos? I think it very well could. Long term, the Leafs now have their number 1 centre. Lots of kids coming up in the next few years who will demand big money could make things interesting. Throwing 10 or at 11 could handcuff them in the long term, and they might second guess offering him that kid of money for a position they have now filled. Maybe the silver lining with this draft day is the canucks could be back in the Stamkos running. Say what you will about throwing big money at him, but elite players do not hit FA everyday and we should take a run at him as a Sedin replacement. Thoughts? Canucks Curse
it probably increases the chance he signs there bc they will have the top 1C, 2C combo for the next 10 yrs

Nuxfanabroad
TBay: 1st OA selection, Bozak, Bernier TO: Stamkos(guarantee signing), Drouin, Koekkoek, Bishop, TBay 1st You read it here first! :^)

At least in Vancouver, the number 1C spot would be open and he can play on the 1st line with the Sedins and eventually take over the duty once they retire. Vancouver also has some nice wingers in Baertschi, Virtanen and Boeser who will help him out in the future, not to mention if we got a Tkachuk or Dubois. Coconuts
It might change his interest in Toronto, it might draw away from it. I'm not entirely sold on the first overall going to Toronto impacting whatever interest Stamkos might have in Vancouver though. I personally don't think he'd come here regardless. I think he'll stay somewhere out East.
Toews
I actually think there is a strong possibility they might not want to pay what it takes to sign him. With Matthews as 1C and Nylander as 2C they don't exactly need him anymore.

WHL rocks
Stamkos might be more inclined to sign with TO now. They have a 2C for next year in AM, Stammer could be the 1C even though he's better on wing in Tampa, on the Leafs he could move back to C. Leafs could be interested IF the price is right. They won't pay a huge price like 12+ mill suggested on CDC all year. Leafs are going to build this thing the right way. The people in charge there are very patient and ownership has bought in to do a full rebuild. They may not want to sign a big UFA like Stammer yet. If I'm the Leafs I continue to build thru the draft for 2 more years and go hard after John Tavares in 2 years. He's a better player, is a solid Centre and TO kid as well. Players aren't very happy with the NYI arena and practice facilities being hours apart. I see Tavares signing in TO in 2 years as UFA.
canucklehead44
The silver lining is that first overall didn't go to Calgary or Edmonton or some jerk face team like Boston who definitely doesn't deserve any good fortune. At least Matthews is heading east. Sucks that Winnipeg got 2nd though. Stamkos will not sign in Vancouver.
desiboynux4lifee*******
leafs are doing it the right way, listened shannys interview, he stated clearly we are not rushing the plan. leafs were honest with there fanbase, and guess what they got rewarded today. leafs prospects - kapanen- nylander, gautheir , soshnikov, Mitch Marner( who is lighting it up) and Matthews. leafs decent veterans - Kadri, JVR, BOZAK, Rielly, Gardiner leafs pat yourself on the back. Shanny has done a great job. Might have missed some prospects on their team I dont care. The point is there in a better boat then us.
LordHorvat
Or maybe Stamkos re signs with Tby.
Canucks Curse
benning / aquaman could learn a thing or two from the leafs. They sold veterans instead of hanging on to them, accumulated picks (12 picks in this draft) and they didn't go on a 3 game win streak at the end of the season (kidding) but really - they were honest with their fan base, everyone on that team and in that city knew what the plan was, here the plan is stuck between staying competitive and rebuilding, which people tried to do in calgary and toronto for a long time and it has not worked. They have big contracts to accommodate in the future to guys like Johnson, Palat and Kucherov. His time is as good as over in Florida. I think if Toronto is out of the timing, the Canucks have a decent shot. No contender has the cap space for Stamkos and I feel Vancouver would be a much better destination than a team like New Jersey.
Wilbur
Stamkos is probably going to TO because that's the only organization that will be willing to take on his contract that may not be able to be insured.

Do we have the cap space though that's the question.
