Stephen Hawking overrated?

I really don't get why people act like he's some insanely gifted genius. Some people speak of him in the same breath as Albert Einstein.

What has Stephen Hawking really accomplished? He wrote some simplified books about Black holes, and made some scientific discoveries about them and cosmology in an era when these types of discovered aren't so unique. Anyone who drops in for appearances on Big Bang Theory shouldn't go down in history as one of the greatest minds.

I guess when you have people like Donald Trump running for American President, the bar is seemingly set pretty low.

Is anyone really that impressed with Stephen Hawking?

Tesla also believes the animals spirits live in your ribs after you eat them. This is why he is a vegan and we know vegans don't make no gains.

So Luciano takes it

this takes the prize, if someone actaully believes this. Once the animal dies the animal spirit departs, wtf will it gain by living in your ribs lol

He is thought of as a genius because of the field he works in.   He has made discoveries and theories in a field no one has the smarts to do.

If he used his brain for something easier like Tesla, he would be even more popular.

You can't really compare fields and say this guy is smarter than the other because not all fields are equal.

The smartest kid in grade 8, probably isn't smarter than the smartest guy in grade 12.

In a stunning turn of events, this thread is brought to you by the same guy that created this gem:

A word of caution for the newbies: don't try to argue with Slegr or you'll run the risk of being called a Hawking fan boy or Hawking science bunny.

Really babych? It's just strange the way you troll people on here. If I'm such a bad guy, why do I have nearly as many '+' / reputations as you in far fewer posts? This is a thread about Stephen Hawking, and all opinions are welcomed and encouraged. But seriously, digging up old threads for no reason other than trying to discredit or anger the OP..? Strange. How about coming up with a thread or two of your own? Or do you just troll others on here?

Do rep points actually mean something to you? Hilarious.

I wouldn't consider myself a troll. I will, however, respond from time to time when folk such as yourself start threads as ridiculous as this one. Who are you, to even pose the question?

I posted the Hansen thread that you started to show that this seems to be a trend with you.

To be honest dude, I highly doubt that you have the intellectual cache to even legitimately ask the question posed in the OP.

To answer the actual question I'll say no, I do not think Hawking is overrated.

For those that do not want to navigate away from this site here's a quick summary.

Hawking: Received PhD in 1965 at age 23. Has won 16 awards including the Hughes Medal, Albert Einstein Award, and the Wolf Prize. Has written 14 books, most notable being A Brief History of Time.

The fact that he doesn't seem to impress Slegr probably doesn't mean much.
