ken kaniff
So now we know where we are picking and I know we're all disappointed. Sure we can still get a good player at 5th or traded down and draft a defenseman but why not explore a different path all together. Oilers have a wealth of young skilled forwards and have already expressed desire to trade a few. So what about trading our 5th overall for Ryan Nugent Hopkins? RNH is already an established top 6 center at just 23 and could be our successor to Henrik Sedin. This would speed up our rebuild really quick. All we would need is defensemen. Oilers can draft a defenseman and a winger with the 4th and 5th picks. So what do you think people?
Z Hockey
Id rather have Alex Nylander, Juolevi, M.Tkachuk, or M.McLeod. If the Oilers wanted 5th to say grab M.Tkachuk & Juolevi, I'd be asking for Eberle, Yakupov, or Klefbom, and their 2nd rounder.
Toews
I think the Oilers will want a proven defenseman in return for their most valuable trade chip. They need to start taking steps forward not make the team worse. Would anyone here do Tanev for the 4th overall? I wouldn't but I am guessing that is the only deal that the Oilers would be interested in.
SaintPatrick33
RNH is soft, injury prone and pretty much passed on the depth chart by Draisatl. This guy gets burned badly by all the bigger centers in the West, you want this guy in the playoffs as a no 1? Make the new Canucks tougher, not the same old soft fragile and smaller type players. To offer the 5th ovr, where we could get size and some nastiness makes no sense.

The Canadian
How about our 5th overall for draisaitl
*Buzzsaw*
Absolutely not. Either Dubois or Tkachuk are better fits to have on the team than RNH. Benning and Linden are building a team on the mold of the 1994 Canucks... big, fast, tough and physical. RNH is too small.

Draisaitl is more in the tier of Pulijujarvi and Laine, plus he has shown that his skills translate into the NHL. Yakupov, Reinhart, +3rd rounder for 5th overall? Wouldn't do that, but a potential offer I could see them giving if they really wanted 5th overall.

We need a top 6 forward but yakupov gets on the third line cause of Boeser and virtanen. I don't really want Reinhart I'd want klefblom
ken kaniff
RNH is soft but his skill is 1st class. Put Virtanen and another power forward on his wings and that toughness isn't a big deal. It's not like we're building a team of soft players it would just be the one guy

At 6 million dollars you could sign a free agent with similar 50-60 point production. Don't get me wrong, RNH still has a lot of trade value.
