[Draft-Day] Vancouver-Montreal Trading Picks

Recommended Posts

Trade down on draft Day.  Trade Vancouver's 5th overall (likely Dubois) for Montreal's 9th overall pick (likely Juolevi) plus their 39th pick (2nd round) or, if they don't go for that - their 45th pick (2nd round).  This would provide a good opportunity to upgrade our D and get another pick in the 2nd round.  Our current D depth is on the weak side.  Montreal gets a strong forward who is a local boy.  We need more picks.  For example, we currently have 6 picks and Calgary has 10 picks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

I'd be fine with this.

If the target is a Dman, one of Sergachev/Juolevi/Chychrun will still be there. If not, then one of Nylander, Tkachuk, Dubois will. Seems like everyone is happy with one of these guys.

I would want a top 4 d instead of a mid second rounder

Good luck with that.

I'd rather draft Chychrun or Sergachev with the 5th overall pick and have that guy as our future top-2 defenceman.

Chychrun

Hutton

Tryamkin

Sbisa

That left side is solidifed for the next 5-10 years. Not the best defencemen in the league but a very good foundation all of a sudden. Throw Subban, Stetcher and Tanev on the right side and we've finally got something to build on. A couple of big name UFAs here and there and our defence is respectable again.

if we are trading the top 5 pick and moving to 9 (big drop off) I would want montreal's 39th and 45th. Otherwise, its just a 2nd round pick to move up to top 5 - a 2nd round pick gets you Roman Polak this year at the deadline - not a very steep price

I think 3rd to 6th is a big drop off - not 5th to 9th in this draft.  I doubt Montreal would be willing to give up both their 39th and 45th picks for the 5th pick.

have you seen any draft rankings with tkachuk and dubois at 9? because that is the drop off, yeah a few rankings have nylander top 5 but that is the only wrinkle, I am just saying I would not drop 4 spots just for the 39th pick

The bottom line is we need a top D man more than we need Dubois in this draft.  So, somehow we need to land Juolevi, Chychrun or Sergachev.  If you look at the potential trading partners (with picks to trade to us) that would allow us to get one of those three D men (plus a second rounder), Montreal's spot (at 9th) looks to be the best bet.  Arizona and Buffalo would be the next best trading partners.  Now that we know we aren't going to land any of the top three in this draft, we need more picks in the worst way (Calgary has 10 picks, Buffalo has 12 picks and we have 7 picks).  I thought we had 6 picks but the following web site shows us as having 7 picks:  http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/vancouver/68/

-1st round is always bpa, drafting by position sets you up for failure, gillis stated this many times as "something he learned"

- there are no "top" defence man in this draft, the big 3-4 d men all project as likely 2nd pairing d men, none of them are complete d men.

-there is a big drop off talent wise between tkachuk/dubois and the d men

-number of picks doesn't really matter- rather have 5 picks in the top 60 than 12 picks with 10 of those in late 2nd and beyond.

Well, you would be happy with what Calgary has.  They have 5 picks in the top 65 and we have 3 picks in the top 65. We need more picks to build our team.  We are no longer in re-tool mode; we are in rebuild mode.  We should be following the Calgary model now.  If nothing else, an extra pick can be used to complement a trade.  We can't rely on UFAs.

Keep the 5th oa

Trade subban hansen 33rd pick for 9th oa

One of nylander, juolevi, sergachev, chychrun or even jost will be available at that spot

Canucks draft 2 players in top ten; montreal gets subban, a vet in hansen and high 2nd rd pick

As much as I like this, I doubt Habs management would.
