Le Trade Du Draft or trading around

Recommended Posts

To hell with it.  I wanna join in on the reactionary nonsense because I'm bored at work

Trades centered around Ottawa and Carolina with picks being the prize.

Vancouver:  Edler

Ottawa: 12th overall and bad contract

At 12 van drafts Jost/Brown

Vancouver:  5th overall

Carolina:  13th, 19th and 48th overall.

At 13th Van drafts Jost/Brown

At 19th Van drafts Bean/Fabbro

At 48th Van drafts Johansen/Dineen.

Feel free to switch that up if you want in terms of who you'd draft

Ok....flame away

Carolina deal is something I could see as a decent trade value-wise. With that said, Carolina has some great young D men in the pipeline and I think its time for them to mass pick forwards in the top 60 to try and fill a soon to be very young hockey team.

For Vancouver we have a decent amount of young forwards who could fill middle 6 but need some top tier forwards and defense, so attempting to get any of those at 5th is more beneficial. With that said I wouldn't be apposed to trading down a few spots.

I wouldn't mind that. Although instead of trading the 5th to move down, what about trying to package the 5th and 12th up to try and move back into the top 3?

Quality in quantity.

We need skilled depth

Jost is a stud Fabbro is a stud and bean as well

With those picks we could replenish our D prospects for the next decade.

As well...unlikely that Winnipeg or Columbus trades those picks

I like the Ottawa proposal, but I hope they don't trade the #5 pick.

Imo the chance to draft Dubois/Tkachuk/Juolevi is too good to pass up. We need young high-end talent badly, and I believe taking BPA at #5 would be the best course of action for the Canucks.

I really like the Ottawa proposal however. If Benning opts for Juolevi at #5 we could grab Logan Brown or Max Jones at #12. If the Canucks chooses a forward at #5 we could still likely get Bean.

Or

Again.  Jost/bean/Fabbro/Brown

And the 48th too

That's high end talent in spades

I like your draft choices with those picks.

Really like them.

But Edler is not worth a 12th overall, more so an 18th overall probably.

Ottawa also is just adding a 5 Mil contract for a good pick, when they need to re-sign

Hoffman, Chiasson, and Ceci.

Hoffman & Ceci especially will be getting big raises.

The Senators got their big 2-way D man for Karlsson to play with when they traded for Phaneuf. Edler would be redundant maybe, unless the Senators wanted crazy D depth and to have Karlssons Olympics D partner in Edler. Which is very plausible but they would not trade 12th overall for Edler.

Edler is still a 2-3 D man on almost any team in the league.  With a decent cap hit no less and some term.  I think he'd be worth a solid pick, that 12th is more than a comparable piece.

Eating a contract in return obviously allows them to re-sign their RFA's to cap friendly bridge contracts or to facilitate another trade that sheds them some more cap.

As was pointed out though, a lot of their bad contracts are now sitting in Toronto so it might be a moot point
