Curmudgeon
Okay, so I heard somewhere that Duchene may be available for the right price. How about: Colorado gives up Matt Duchene, Nick Zadorov, 10th overall pick 2016, and 7th round pick 2016 to Vancouver for: Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann, Andrey Pedan, 5th overall pick 2016 and 4th round pick 2016 Vancouver comes out with Number one centre in Duchene, a good prospect in Zadorov, and the chance to draft say Tyson Jost, Sergachev, Logan Brown, Chychrun or Keller

I think it depends on how highly you rate him as a center. I think this package is probably close to fair value, probably needs another asset added from our end, but I wouldn't make this trade. I don't think it helps us long term. I'd rather just draft at 5th this year, and then draft Top-5 again next year, or just sign Stamkos (probably means missing out on a Top-5 pick next year). My essential gripe with this sort of trade, is that if Duchene is a difference maker for us next year, to the point that our team doesn't pick high in the draft, then I think we will be a mediocre team for a long time, since we won't have enough young assets for the future core, and we will not be drafting in premium position. If Duchene isn't that difference maker, and we draft really high again next year, then why make this trade? That would say something about the value of Duchene, and that would say to me that his value wouldn't be worth giving up Virtanen and McCann and trading down. So basically, I think we aren't at the appropriate point in our timeline to be acquiring a player like Duchene and giving up young assets. Maybe this sort of trade could be done in 1-2 years from now, and I think that at that point it might make more sense.
Blue Jay 22
I don't think this proposal benefits either team. The whole point of trading Duchene for Colorado is to get some help on D. Andrey Pedan is definitely not going to solve that issue. On top of that they are giving up Zadorov, who even though has struggled, still has much higher upside than Pedan. So even though they are getting some nice young players in McCann and Virt, they still have a massive problem with their D, and now they lost their best trade piece to fix it. As for the us, I'm not sure the best thing to do right now is to trade 2 highly rated youngsters and 2 draft picks, even if it is for Duchene and +. If this team truly wants to rebuild, then the last thing they should be doing is trading McCann and Virt unless it is for prospects in other positions that are rated equally or higher, like Dmen prospects.
