(Proposal) Hansen + picks and/or prospects for Valeri Nichushkin

Recommended Posts

Recently seeing/hearing that he wasn't happy about his playing time and being a healthy scratch, it seems that he may want out which could make this trade a little more desirable. I quickly did a comparison of their stats at of their first two seasons in the NHL and they are pretty similar:

Hansen -          .35 ppts (first two seasons in the NHL 102 gp)

Nichushkin -      .38 ppts (first two seasons in NHL 166 gp)

However Hansen in his first two seasons played with lower tier players (3rd and/or 4th liners) while Nichushkin played predominately with Benn and Seguin and some higher tiered forwards.

This trade works out because Yannik has shown that his game elevates when he plays with better players, speed come match well with Benn and Seguin not to mention he is more reliable defensively which dallas will need for next season seeing all the free agent defense men they have. Also Spezza said in an interview that they would sometimes just try to score their way out of trouble.

But I'm all I'm trying to say is that it works cap wise and team wise for both parties. Feel free to add to the proposal its open-ended and sorry for the long read.

Want to extract a nice piece from Dallas? Dangle this..Miller for Lehtonen.

Lehtonen's garbage..with 2 more yrs of a 5.9 mill/cap. Endure his suckage(as backup) for one yr..maybe buy the bum out, after that? He'd help us get another good pick next season, with Marky getting the lion's share of work.

Anywho, Dallas would prob jump to get rid of half their gting-disaster. Miller would be off the books in a yr.

So we add a middling prospect/pick(or Vey!), & they'd add Nich.

I'd love to turf Miller and I cant believe JB didn't take SJ's offer.

as even the latest JB interview, he said that he's willing to sacrifice Hamhuis for cap relief but not Miller.

People dumping on Lehtonen... if you're going to take a bad contract from Dallas it will be Niemi. As far as goalies go Lehtonens issue is inconsistency and injuries, but in skill he's a class above Niemi. As the commentators in the playoffs have said, if you're going into a game and need someone to steal it Lehtonen has that game breaking ability,

I think the closest we could get for a deal with Dallas (assuming Miller waives)

Van Trades - Miller 50% Retained, McCann
Dal Trades - Niemi, Nichushkin

Well, he's a RFA so you can expect he'll be eating up some cap pretty soon.

The guy does have a solid skillset.  I think he'll be a real good player, but how does he fit into our team?  I'd also sooner go for a left winger over a right.  For the right in the future, we have the possibility of Virtanen (likely 2nd line at best), and Boeser (unproven at the NHL level, but hopefully a 1st line player).  Doesn't leave a lot of room for Nichushkin in a couple of year's time.

Still, given his upside, I'd be willing to do this - though I doubt Dallas would.
