Canucks should donate

The oilers and flames donated $100,000 to Red Cross to help support people in the Fort McMurray devastation that is currently happening, I know it's a different province but this is Canada and we need to stick up for each other!

they are currently in a state of emergency

If you think about it, 100k is absolutely nothing. The amount of ticket revenue and sponsorship Ft. Mcmurray oil has injected into those franchises is astronomical. I bet every luxury box in Alberta is tied to Oil.

I love how quick people are to take a dump on someone trying to be optimistic and positive. He's not a multi-million dollar organization. Lay off dude, sheesh.

You are entitled to love what you want. As for me I'm always sceptical of anyone saying "Those other people should give money" or another thing I see on this forum all the time " Canada/ US should go to war and......." but nobody ever says " I just signed up to go fight".

Indeed.  There's nothing the OP said that was "optimistic" or "positive".

So you can only hold an opinion on whether your country should go to war or not if you are soldier? Is that what you are saying?

Well, it is much easier to be pro-war when you or your family's life is not on the line.

Big fire in the Himalayas too. Who donates there? Cricket teams?

Keep on saying this, because it's true: IC(Industrialized civilization) is in end-game. These kinds of extreme events are going exponential now. There's NO WAY for humanity to stave off this reality.

Scientists like Guy McPherson state this very clearly & succinctly in his presentations(many on youtube), & website, 'Naturebatslast.com'. There aren't many like him, with the boldness to directly state the predicament we're facing.

There are 7.4 BILLION on the planet today. 200,000 births - deaths, added daily. 1.5 million people added, per week. 80 million new souls annually. None of this is sustainable. Yet who's willing to look at it squarely?

Tragedies like Fort Mac must be recognized as a telltale symptom, of the even bigger problem we collectively face. This set of living arrangements is going the way of the dodo.

There's good people offering shelter, places to park, places to take trailers, animals. The Red Cross is trying to raise money.

Individuals traditionally collectively raise more money than groups. I've seen firemen, owners of aircraft offering water bombers to assist. It'sMillerTime is right, folks there are going to need everything, food, clothes.

I don't think Gurn is being rude, the OP asked why the Canucks haven't donated? Has Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa, or Montreal made a team donation? I hate to say this, but if St. Louis didn't have a player from Fort Mc, would there be a 50/50 going on?

If you can give what you can, that's awesome. Maybe also don't wait for emergency, and give what you can to charities in general?

Can you show me where I said that? The point is many people have an opinion or a way for other people to "fix" things that rarely, if ever, involve  doing something or cost to themselves.

People can have any opinion they want. That does not mean everybody has to be silent when they express it.

It's a poor criticism. Just because I am not a soldier does not mean it is easy for me to be pro war. I realize that our country will be sending troops and that lives maybe lost.

But there are instances where war may what is best for the future of our people and those of our allies.

I have been anti war in almost every instance but that does not mean I want our country to turn entirely pacifist. If atrocities are being committed that can be prevented, if our allies are being threatened or under attack, Canada needs to respond. We have a responsibility to the international community and I am proud that this country has defended those in the past who could not defend themselves.

As already mentioned, $100,000 is nothing from a multi-million dollar organization like a pro-sports team. It's sad that's all they've given. You know the Sedin's donated 1.5 million in one go to BC children's hospital? Also funded an after school program. Other players are also heavily involved in charity work as it's a focus for the team, a reason i like this team is because they want a commitment from players to the community. So good for the oil and flames for donating but shame on them for it being so little.
