Just Do What Toronto Did!

No guarantee's of getting the #1, but a better chance.

Next year's draft is the dman draft, loads of dmen available.

Just do it, this team is not a contender and it won't be for another 4 to 5 years because of the dithering around of trying to make the playoffs the end all be all.

The fans will adapt if told the simply truth.

Why go out there an sign some old FA to play with the Sedins that might just keep the team picking in the 10+ spot for another two years.

Look at and compare Edmonton and Calgary to the Nucks, heck look at every other team in the conference, how do the Canucks match up? IMO, not very well.

Who on the Canucks equal McDavid, RNH, Hall, Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennet?  Who matches up with Kesler, Perry, Carter, Kopitar, Getzlaf....you see where this is going, sure there are numerous fans that will insist that Horvat is the next McDavid for this team, but really..

The only place the Nucks might just come close or even be a little ahead is on defence and goalie/prospects. It looks like the Nucks will have three future top four dmen, Tanev, Hutton, Tryamkin with Pedan, Brisbrois and a couple of others maybe knocking on the door.

Remember that Horvat was/is still projected by numerous non-Canuck hockey guru's to be a solid third line center with possible/marginal second line center potential. This team is years behind getting the "franchise" forwards it will need.

Toronto stated last year they were going to build through the draft and that it would be painful for the fans, they openly moved players that would have kept the team in the tweens for the draft, the league and the media didn't turn on them, if anything the media was totally supportive and encouraging. Buffalo the year before did the same thing, actually for two years.

Toronto outright tanked and got the first pick in the system that is suppose to deters teams from tanking and getting the first overall.  Vancouver did not tank, despite the cries from the fanbase, and now they pick 2 spots lower than they should be picking because we can't have teams tanking.  Thank you Edmonton, as if your coked out 80's dynasty didn't cause enough suffering to our fanbase your inept management of the last 10 years surely did.

Vancouver should not of dropped in the lotto standings.  They were 3rd last place team, the odds should of been 80% at staying 15% for 2nd 5% for 1st.  Instead it was 60% of moving down.  My guess this will be changed once a American O6 team gets hosed like we just did.

What "3rd line" 20 year old centre gets 40 points? Bo is on an upward curve, the sky is the limit(not really but you know what I mean). The guy was drafted 9th overall. Who spends a 9th overall pick for a 3rd line centre? Who trades a bonafide number one for a 3rd line center? Bo may be a third line center right now, but he won't be for long

What did Toronto do again?

Traded their best pick in decades to a divisional rival, their best goaltender in decades to a divisional rival and sucked for almost 10 full years with 1 playoff berth where they lost a 3 goal lead in game 7

then suck some more, trade all vets and productive players in hopes to win the 1st overall with a 20% chance?

Ya...gonna pass my man

You think any fan doesn't want their team playing in the playoffs? Personally watching the team get their butts handed them and being embarrassed in the playoffs isn't so great either.

When a team is rising in the standings, getting better, then merely making the playoffs is an accomplishment, but hanging on for years with mostly the same players and very slowly deteriorating, is more painful the encouraging.

fans don't hope for their team to miss the playoffs and be dead last, sorry.

Fans that want to "build through the draft" hope for the best plyers available, unfortunately other than the top two or three might take 3 to 4 years to see if they are "foundation" players or difference makers.

Benning as much as stated that anyone over pick 6 would take 3 or 4 years to figure out.

It is far more productive to develop our players into winners than to hope the team falls flat on it's face for a high draft pick.  If JB can ad some quality UFAs and get our young players to play a major role in a playoff run it would go a long way into propelling this team into a contender. I would take that any day. JB has done a great job wit his picks so far and with getting college UFA players to come over.  Keep building the team for success.

What Toronto did was hiring a management team with lots of deep ties to the NHL brass that basically ensured them the #1 pick as well as shrewd trades only possible by one of the longest serving GM'a in the league.

It's all about who you know and who you blow and Toronto has the right mix in the management team to do both.

What happens when you have a pretty boy, club16 promoting, rookie president; lifelong scout as rookie GM, and a twitchy AHL lifer as a coach: you drop from 3rd to 5th in the draft and can't give away one of the best defence man in the league for a bag of pucks.

Welcome to years of not making the playoffs!

I'm on all for tanking for 2017, but I've read the draft next year is going to be weak so it's hard to get as excited for the tank next year.  I've been looking ahead to the 2018 draft because it's supposed to be a better draft, but it's still too early to judge that.  I'm prepared for years of pain!  Can't rush this rebuild!

or we could follow wht detroit did. Drafting 1st overall doesnot gaurantee stanley cup. Drafting and developing players are 2 diff stages.  the canucks need to develop their players into superstars and yes its gonna take time.

UFA's, apart from Stamkos, which line one, top ten league scoring forwards are out there?

Now if you are talking RFA's, there might be a couple and with next year not being an outstanding forward draft, the team could give up a pick if the player is good enough.

Toronto won the lottery because they got lucky and their number got called. Linden could have been one of Bettman's cronies and it wouldn't have changed a thing.
