Thoughts on 2011 Cup Run

Just curious,

Had the Canucks won in 2011, would this retool ( rebuild, whatever) be easier to take? If someone said we would win that year, but not be serious contenders for at least another decade, what would your thoughts be? Would you take it?

As I look back, that team was missing the " It factor". They nearly choked a 3-0 lead vs Chicago, and was embarrassed in game 7 at home. Many will say it was a fun ride. However, getting blown out with a heartless performance in game 7 is all I will remember. In the end, the cup is all that counts. We were no better than the worse place team that year. That's why it's harder to deal with the downfall now. We didn't win. Otherwise, this would be easier to stomach!!!

Easier to take by whom? Aquilini? I'm fine with our team getting younger by adding fresh future faces to the roster as it's a necessity that every aging core must face at some point.

Had we won the Cup in 2011 this team could have Toronto'd for 5-10 years and still be given a grace period by many of its' fans still reveling in the first team title.

2011 was the best year to be a Canuck fan, that team played such beautiful hockey. Everything from the breakout passes to the beautiful Sedin goals, to watching Salo blast one from the point.....

If we won, I wouldnt care how bad we sucked for at least 10 years. I would just go back and watch the cup celebration every year where Hank passes the cup on to Kesler as we celebrate one of the most dominant NHL teams ever.

I remember setting up my alarm clock to wake up every other night,so I could watch Canucks games live. I was always dead tired the day after in school, but well worth it, because there were just so many exciting games to watch!

I'm ready for the rebuild and I'm ready for them to do it right, nevermind all of the "retool" nonsense. A retool is what a team like the 2008 Canucks do when they fall on their face, not this 2016 edition of the team which is now lacking star power and a long way from contending.

As for winning the cup in 2011, sure it would make waiting through the rebuild easier. I think all of us Canuck fans want a Stanley Cup to hang our hat on and have something more to remember through the dark times other than our 2 "close calls".

If I had it my way,

Hamhuis and vrabata would have been traded at last year's draft

I am not saying trade all veterans, trade the sedins, etc, but trade players who are past their prime, especially when they can still bring you in some good assets. we could have easily gotten a first for hammer and a 2nd + a really good prospect for vrabata, but nope, that is too much outside the bun thinking

if we had won, the entire city would still be on cloud 9 and there would be a day in June called Canuck day where we all relive the glory and basque in its warm, comforting glow...sigh

Actually we were a whole heck of a lot better than the last place team. We were hands down the most dominant team that year. A healthy squad would have surely won.

Winning then might have given fans something great to look back on, but there would still be just as much frustration with everything post 2011. In fact you'd probably hear even more complaining, since everyone's expectations would've been even higher.

Gotta think that Hank passes the cup to Danny. I'm sure Kes would have been 3rd (or 4th behind Lu) but I imagine Henrik treats the cup like the puck and lays a sweet sauce to his twin.

Depends on what era you grew up in and your interpretation of the word "best"

1982 was also a great year.  Smyl, Gradin and Richard Brodeur were among the top players.  Despite the sweep, the fans gave their team a small parade for their Cinderella run (aided by the Kings toppling the Oilers in the famous Miracle on Manchester game)

1994 was also a great year.  We were entertained by the skill and speed of our superstar Pavel "The Russian Rocket" Bure and the leadership of Linden and the rock solid stand up goaltender Kirk "The Captain" McLean (with "The Save" that made their CInderella run possible).

2011 was another great year.  This time it was not really a Cinderella run as they had a stacked lineup.  Lu, Edler, Hammer, Juice, Sedins, May Ray, Kesler, Burrows etc.  Gmaes 1 and 2 and 5 of the SCF were exciting and as expected for a Finals game but what I didn't understand was the meltdown away from Rogers arena (the three blowout losses in Boston) and then getting blown out at home on the most important game of the year :(
