Discussion : Draft Day Movie

So I was in the mood for a good movie and I was flicking through and I found Draft Day. In my opinion it was a fantastic movie loved the story line and all the drama. Just got me thinking, what are the chances Big Jim can do something like that for the Canucks on our 'Draft Day'.
And how I wish that they published all the phone calls when Jims making a trade I want to see if he is as big of a push over as some people say he is.

i picture benning going all liam neeson, like "i don't know who you are, gm of the tampa bay lightning, i don't know what you want. if you are looking for trade, I can tell you I don't have defensemen, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills-- skills I have acquired over a very long career. skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. if you trade drouin to us, that'll be the end of it. i will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, i will look for you, i will find you, and i will negotiate with you"

Personally, I thought the way Costner's character manipulated the draft was completely unrealistic, so I'd rate the chances that JB can pull off something similar are just as unrealistic.

 

He'll draft either Tkachuk or Dubois, (whichever one Chiarelli leaves us) and I'm perfectly fine with that.

The phone conversations with Bowman would be interesting to hear.

 

Chicago picked up Ladd and also got Ehrhoff for defensive depth, and it turns out they probably needed someone like Hamhuis a whole lot more. In effect, Benning saying no to a low ball offer from Bowman could be viewed as a significant factor in Chicago bow(man)ing out early in this year's playoffs.

Benning's done his homework for a year now, and done it in person, here and in Europe. If there's a chance to upgrade anywhere I think he'd do it instantly, but he doesn't strike me as the pushover panicky type one bit. 

 

And people need to quit it with the draft day theories from the twitterverse. Hammer gave 2 teams neither of which wanted him in the end. I don't see why people can't accept that.

And Sportsnet has gone on how the Blackhawks might be regretting just a bit not trading for him.

such an unrealistic set of circumstances but very entertaining movie. maybe he can take advantage of phx and their rookie GM but NHL draft is way different than NFL. teams draft by position all the time bc the nfl draftees are older - 21-22 yrs old and are ready to step in right away. If you are not ready for the NFL you do not get picked. If teams are therefore drafting by position of need, there is far more movement so that teams can move up and down to get the players they want. By comparison there is very little movement in the NHl draft bc these kids are young and for the most part not ready to step into the nhl so teams do not draft based on current need. Players that are ready for the nhl tend to get picked in the top 3-5 and even then they usually need at least 1 yr before the nhl.

lol trusting Benning ? The same guy who can't trade a ufa, costs us two prospects in Forsling and Mckewon. Trades away H. Shinkurak for a player who plays like complete trash. 

 

yes trust Benning, more like fire benning and the rest of the management and get a management who has a  logical thinking mind unlike a mind full fantasy because thats what our management is. 

 

we will try our best to be a playoff team next year? HOW FREAKING HOW can you freaking say this to the fanbase? Reality is they somehow believe a freaking plug like Lucic will make this team a contender and that  is scary!

 

a stale veteran group! Decling sedins, horvat is a bright spot but is only a 2nd line potiental guy. Baesrtchi is a coin flip along with Rodin and Gaunce. A highly questionable Defence and this management continues to lie to their fanbase.

First game we played against Shinkaruk he scored against his own team. At least trash didn't score on us...

 

And who the &^@# really cares about McKeown, LA already traded his ass.

the guy only has 12 points in 9 games in the OHL in the playoffs as a defencemen yep who cares! we got Vey yaaay!

Benning also got us Baertschi, a second for Garrison, Sibsa, Sutter, Mccann and a third for only Kesler, and a second for Bieksa.

What did he screw up? He traded Forsling and a second for two prospects who never amounted to anything. Big deal, it could've gone either way. The Shink/Granlund trade is still up in the air IMO. Right now I'm not happy with it, but Granlund is still young. Besides, we don't need another small left winger.

Wow. You are unbelievable. You came into a thread ABOUT THE MOVIE ''DRAFT DAY''......and you're first response is to poop on Benning. Again!  

Do us a favour, ...do a search for the ''Poop on Benning'' thread, go there, and feel free to do your thing.
