DeltaSwede
Quote Dale Tallon may be moving up the food chain, taking a “President of Hockey [Operations] style position,” according to Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet’s “Headlines” segment. Tallon is currently the executive vice president and general manager. In his place, Tom Rowe would move up to be the general manager. Eric Joyce, who currently runs the team’s robust analytics department, would become the assistant general manager. The Miami Herald’s George Richards corroborates the report, adding that Tallon will “continue doing what he does,” but with more feedback and input from Rowe and Joyce. Steve Werier, current vice president of legal and business affairs, will also become an assistant general manager, according to Richards. George Richards ✔@GeorgeRichards #FlaPanthers Tom Rowe already making some changes within hockey ops; was told he let their equipment managers go on Thursday. 2:26 AM - 8 May 2016 None of this is official, but is expected to be made so when Tallon returns from Russia, where he’s scoutingat the 2016 World Championship. Looks like Florida are joining the trend towards more analytic based management approaches.

That's funny, but I know zero about those numbers. However, with so many teams using them now, I hoped we were on board too. Maybe all our scouts should be these young go getter anylitics guys? They collect and interpret data, make recommendations to JB, and JB goes and watches the top ones to make the best choice?
Fanuck
Nice first move by new GM, fire all the equipment guys on your first day. They're usually the hardest working guys other than players in the entire franchise - classy.
Ghostsof1915
These sound more like desperate moves by teams that are losing money (Arizona and Florida). I'm curious to see if Florida making the first round of the playoffs will offset losing $20 million dollars in 2015. And Arizona losing $4.5 million. (Interestingly these two are the worst valued franchises by Forbes). http://www.forbes.com/nhl-valuations/list/#tab:overall

Not saying it's impossible, but I highly doubt it myself. Makes no sense - first place in the division, playoffs for the first time in 3 years, all with an entire staff of equipment managers who weren't good at their jobs.......like I said, not impossible but I doubt it. Agreed, you don't accomplish what FLA did this year with terrible equipment managers - that's why it makes no sense?!?!

Or maybe Dale didn't want to fire them so he let Rowe do the dirty work.

I don't mind a guy putting his 'stamp' on a team, but it's one thing if Scotty Bowman or Ken Holland puts their 'stamp' on a team - these guys have accomplished things and earned the entire leagues respect. Lex Luthor on the other hand here, what's he done exactly....

Plus, he's clearly a talented numbers person too. It's changing times, and for teams like Florida, who are cash strapped, and sell tickets for pennies, if not giving them away, they need to make sure all their players not only play up to their contract, but that they also sell some tickets - ie jagr. I would like to see our team get more analytical with our players for sure.
WHL rocks
More like a demotion rather than promotion even though Tallon will have higher rank. Seems like he got pushed out of the GM position which he most likely didn't want to do. Maybe FLD owners are looking to duplicate the Chicago success. Let Tallon build the team thru draft then let another guy make the necessary changes to take the team to the next level. I like this philosophy. Sometimes a GM gets too attached/committed to certain players he drafted or acquired. Tough decisions need to be made and a new guy won't have an issues making those decision.
