(Discussion) Taking Adam Brooks in the draft

Recommended Posts

I was wondering why Adam Brooks is going so low in the draft? Most mock drafts project him to go in the 5th or 6th round. I don't know why because his stats are pretty good. In 72 games he got 38 goals and 82 assists for 120 points. He plays for the Regina Pats in the WHL. His height is 5'10, but smaller the player the faster they are. One reason he might be going so low in because of his weight. He is only 169lbs. He is 20 years old, so he was not picked in the past 2 or 3 drafts. I would love it if Benning could draft him because he can be a number 1 centre. Can someone please tell me why this kid is not going in the 2nd round. It would be greatly appreciated.

The first bolded part answers the second.

He will not get drafted.  We could sign him as a free agent, and use the pick elsewhere.

He's expected to go in the 5th round. He is sorta like Tryamkin. Tryamkin was 20 when he was drafted, and he was drafted in the 4th round.

I don't think we should waste our 2nd round pick on him, I just said it would be great to get him

He's little though.  Cagullia went undrafted, and look at the recent hype over him.

Gaudreau is little. Gaudreau is a better comparision to Brooks than Tryamkin.

Gaudreau is a very special talent.  Who knows, maybe JB picks the guy you like in a later round?

I hope we get him in the 4th cause we don't have our 5th. We should trade Vey or Higgins for a late 4th

Living in Regina, I've gotten to see him a few times. He's pretty alright. Would definitely not mind him in the system. But I'd rather sign him and use the pick on someone else.

If the Canucks can somehow manage another 2nd round pick, I think Ty Ronning would be a good guy to go after.  I like Lucas Johanssen at 33

Remember the last time we picked an overager in the 2nd round?

I immediately thought Mallet as well haha. Impressive stat line for Brooks but he is a 20 years old playing in juniors. 2nd round pick would be Boston drafting crazy as you could get him easily in the 5th. Tryamkin was drafted at 19 years old and he was playing in the KHL against men and looking good. Brooks is playing against kids and looking good.

If he's been passed over a few times and is now pegged as a 4-5th rounder there must be some glaring deficiencies in his game, given his point totals, my guess is he's way too soft.

I don't see why JB trades Vey (who he coughed up a 2nd for) for a 4th round project that isn't physically intimidating.

Just my take though, never seen him play.

He is a man playing in a league full of boys. Lots of players excel in there 19 year old season because they are playing against 17 year old players who are not as developed yet. Trevor Cox is a good example of this.
