FrankieCorrado
Does this mean we now have a shot at Trouba??? One can only hope...
PhillipBlunt
I certainly hope this doesn't mean that his mother's health has taken a turn for the worse.

Yeah, I was thinking that would be a sad outcome if he eventually stayed with NYI. Obviously the Isles would like to keep him, but not at the expense of his mother. Toews
Good for the Isles. Any trade with a top pairing defenseman making only 3.85M would have been a loss despite a fair return.

Yeah, hopefully it means remission and not the alternative... Good for the Isles though. Shame he's off the market, would have been a great pick up for any team. I agree for me Tanev is the most untouchable player on the Canucks after Horvat. Vast overpayment needed to move either.

Monty
Great news for the Isles and, as mentioned, hopefully this is good news for his family. Live close to St. Malo, and haven't heard anything recently. Will keep my ear to the ground, though. 26 minutes ago, FrankieCorrado said: Does this mean we now have a shot at Trouba??? Did the Canucks legitimately have a shot at Trouba in the first place? Because if the Jets do decide to trade him (or Myers), and they decide that they're dumb enough to trade him to a Western team, they'll look to the Oilers or Avs and their plethora of young forwards to snatch up in return. What they wouldn't do is look to the Canucks.
GB5
Hope this quells the Canucks trade for Hamonic rumours. I don't think Vancouver was one of his stated options and it wouldn't make sense to trade for him anyway considering what one would have to part with. You have to think the Canucks chances to get Trouba are higher now, if he was going to get traded it would have been for Hamonic, I agree their chances are almost non-existent but hey you never know. I don't think you're understanding this. Just because jets considered trading trouba for Hamonic doesn't mean that Trouba was on the market. And it also has nothing to do with the canucks, as we have nothing to offer either team. So no, canucks chances to getting trouba are the same as they were yesterday, slim to none. If Trouba was getting traded, which was only ever in discussion due to Hamonic's request to come to Winnipeg, then the price would be sky high. So high that the reported ask from the Isles was Trouba in return for Hamonic, and Chevy said no as his ceiling is expected to be a lot higher than Hamonic (who is pretty much at his ceiling). So, if the Jets are to trade a 22 year old defenseman, who is believed to be a 35-45 point defenseman when given top minutes, which he hasn't in Winnipeg due to Byfuglien, then the Jets would be best served to trade him to a team that has a great asset in return. So, you know, not the Canucks. This is all hypothetical, as there has been no indication that they will move Trouba. However, if they were, they would do exactly as they did with Evander Kane and move him out East. They wouldn't be making a team in their Conference better, which should always be at the front of a GMs mind. So, if they were to trade him out East, I'm sure the plenty of teams would try and put something together for his services. Now, if they couldn't, then the Jets would best be served to look at trading him, in this order, to the Coyotes, Oilers, and Avalanche. Coyotes have a boatload of young forwards ready to step in, and would probably love to have a RHD on their team. More importantly, while it's important to build through the draft, a team still needs to spend to the cap in order to keep their talent and remain competitive. The Coyotes are not that, nor will they ever be that team. So, if the Jets WERE to trade Trouba out West (again, wasn't ever in the cards), Coyotes would be the smartest choice, as it's unlikely he'll be coming back to punish them in the playoffs year in and year out. Next, they would look to the Oilers. Now, while trading him to the Oilers would only make an incredibly scary team in the next 3 years even scarier, they are not in their division. And the possibility of snagging Draisaitl/RNH in return would be fair and reasonable. Lastly, they would look at the Avs. Colorado desperately needs another defenseman and has the forwards to spare to make something happen. However, they are in the Central Division, and it's unlikely Chevy is dumb enough to trade him to a team in the Central. Already a dog fight to get into a playoff spot, making the Avs stronger on the backend will not help them. Literally the last team that Chevy would trade Trouba to is the Canucks. They don't enticing enough pieces to make it worth the Jets while.
