For me, the 'right choice' has got to be C, as hard as it will be to see this team lose again and play meaning-less hockey down the stretch - this is the smartest move for the org and would benefit the team more than the other two.

However, I do not think the Sedins will be able to mentally handle another year like last year, it was hard on them and we all saw it. Another year of losing is another hard year for our young guys, losing culture starts to develop if it hasn't already. This years draft lottery takes a lot of wind out of Tank Nation's sails, is it still worth it? Nothing is guaranteed.

An early exit from the playoffs would not be a big momentum booster, just as we saw in the series vs Calgary and how that translated into last season. Again, nothing is guaranteed.

Let's lay-low, let's suck it up and build from the draft even if it kills some of the old blood on the team - IMO, it's necessary.

Thanks,

Jib

It doesn't really sound like your asking what people would prefer but rather you're trying to tell you what you think is best....

On that note.

A healthy season from Sutter and Edler coupled with development progress from Bo and Sven plus a free agent who will contribute more the Vrbata did this past year should return this team to playoffs in a wild card spot.

As proven by Brock Boeser though, you don't have to pick in the top 5 to get a great draft pick.

I want to see JB have a big off season with the team. Draft well, sign FAs if it makes sense and attempt to ice the most competent line up he can come game 1. I would like to see the kids play hard, and the vets mentor them. If we play a good season, and kids continue to make strides and we can start developing a winning environment I don't care what the outcome of the season is. I'm fine with getting bounced early, competing for a wild card, or finishing bottom 5 (as long as it's unintentional)

Looks like a *slightly* biased poll.

I strongly believe we are making the playoffs next season, and if we don't, it will be by a small margin.  There is almost zero chance we are going to suck as bad as this year.

So with that in mind, I would like to give our young guys as much experience as possible - which means to go as deep into the playoffs as we can.

At this point, I'm not concerned about us contending.... I know that is unlikely.  But I do want the longest possible season, with entertaining play and a noticeable development of our players.

I would favor making the playoffs, even with knowing we are not Cup material. 1) avoid the loser mentality; enough of that. We "tanked" this last season for various reasons, and had some vets questioning other players. That kind of atmosphere is poison in a locker room, I have been there/done that. You start to question yourself, start to voice things that have no reason to be aired. 2) Next year is supposedly a "weak" draft year. So...we have a bad year, get another top 5 pick; would supposedly be about the same as getting in around 15-20 this year. Besides, I am in favor of using that pick next year to move up in the draft this year, so we wouldn't have that great pick anyway. 3) Success breeds success; give the younger players a taste, and hopefully they want more. This season was a bit of an aberration, with some many critical injuries. Would we have been as bad if it was Sbisa with the broken leg instead of Edler? Or Cracknell (while we still had him) with a broken jaw instead of Sutter? No way; I'm not saying we would have made the playoffs, but our pick would likely be 11th-12th this year, which doesn't get us Tkachuk (hopefully).

I see the reasoning behind another poor year, but...I just don't favor it.

We're going to sign Stamkos this summer who's going to bump the Sedins down to 2nd line for the season, leaving them refreshed and ready for the playoffs and in a complete turn around from this season, we're going to win the Presidents trophy and run all 4 teams that we face in the playoffs to stun everyone and win the cup in a rematch with Boston where we sweep them in 4 straight! :)

How does that sound to everybody?

Now, after that dose of illogical ranting, I return you to your regularly scheduled program of doubt, hand wringing and reality!

Slightly? Yeah, I've seen less biased reports from Fox News.

Playoff experience for Bo, Jake and Markstrom is too valuable, not to mention if someone like Dubois or Tkachuck crack the lineup. One tank year a decade is enough.

The poll doesn't make it seem like I'm asking, sorry if the poll is confusing you. Polls are used to ask and gauge peoples opinions.

As proven by Brock and others - good point. However, as proven by most cup winners over the last 10 years, you do need top 5 talent.

Depends on health of the core.

Sutter, Sedins, Horvat, Tanev, Edler have to remain healthy

We also could see a jump from Jake, McCann, Trymakin, Markstrom, Bear

If we can add a quality FA or two, this team will be gunning for playoffs. If we get shutout of a talented FA, then who knows. We need at least one more top 4 D and two of our young guys to step into the top 6 and be consistent.

This is a 5 year process, heading into year 3 honestly not expecting anything but I want to see some entertaining hockey where we can string together 3 passes on our breakouts.
