[Proposal] Getting Tyson Barrie from Colorado

Recommended Posts

After years of lurking I have finally decided to join this online forum, so please go easy on me.

Colorado

McCann

Trymakin

Sbisa

5th overall

for

Vancouver

Barrie

10th overall

Why you ask? Colorado has quite a few young Russians on their team and have a need for defensemen who can play the right side. Both Sbisa and Trymakin are left handed but they have both shown the ability to play the right side. The other spot that Colorado needs some help is at Centre, sure they have Duchene and Soderberg, but they don't have a 3rd line centre and McCann could fill that spot next year. 5th for 10th is a deal sweetener. We will most likely get a defenseman (Bean or Sergachev) at 10

Thoughts?

Edler - Barrie

Hutton - Tanev

Hamhuis - UFA?

If Barrie was really that great and a must have, then we might as well offer the 1st round pick for the next 100 years.

Why we do it?

We will for sure win a cup with Barrie so 1 cup = 100 years of 1st round draft pick.

Why Colorado does it?

They will basically have 2 first round picks for the next 100 years to build their team around.

I don't think Benning would make that trade. Tyson Barrie is a good offensive defenceman who can quarterback a PP. But he is small, contributes nothing to the physical game, and is not very strong defensively.

I think you are right that at #10 overall the Canucks could get Sergachev or Bean, but I think that is a big step down from #5. That is a lot more than just a "sweetener". The Canucks would be giving up Tkachuk or Dubois, either of whom projects reasonably as a good first line forward and has some chance of developing into a franchise type player. McCann and Tryamkin are also very good prospects. This trade would gut the emerging young core of the team in return for a guy whose scoring numbers significantly overstate his true value.

Personally think it's an underpayment from Vancouver's perspective.

Would also think with their average defence core, Colorado would demand an established NHL top-4 defender in the package (no, Sbisa does not count, lol).

Honestly, I'd never do that trade as Vancouver fan. It makes no sense for the team. So you give up McCann, Sbisa, Tryamkin, Juolevi/Chychrun/Dubois, for Barrie and Sergachev? I mean... Barrie does nothing for our team in the short term, and who is to say one of the players we give away isn't more valuable in the long term... Tyson Barrie just isn't that good, but it's so typical of CDC to make a million trade threads about the latest player supposedly on the block... Do you think that a rumour about a player coming available could occur without someone here making a thread about why that person needs to be on our team? Not every trade can make sense....
